Mercedes-Benz to nix R-Class from U.S. lineup despite being built in Alabama
Mercedes-Benz to nix R-Class from U.S. lineup despite being built in Alabama
After years of lackluster sales, Mercedes-Benz is finally pulling the plug on the company's R-Class, at least as far as sales in the United States go. The vehicle will continue to be manufactured at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and exported to markets around the globe.
According to Yahoo! Autos, the company has sold just 300 R-Class units nationwide through March of this year despite the fact that the German automaker is having no trouble moving any of its larger SUV models. With R-Class sales bumbling along, Mercedes-Benz says it simply can't maintain a business case for selling the overgrown wagon in the States.
As of right now, the company will continue to produce the R-Class through 2015 for sale in Mexico, Canada and China. After that date, Mercedes-Benz will likely replace the vehicle with a new creation based on the bones of the current M-Class.
I have always liked them and wondered why they dont sell better. I personally hate SUVs and the way they handle. The R class gives you the utility of the SUV but safer handling. Why not??!

to be honest, because you can get a sienna or odyssey for almost the same kind of options for quite a bit less money. not to mention the 2nd row door, if i get a car like this, i would want sliding doors. having them the way it is it defeats a lot of the purpose.
if you talk about handling, yes suv is "worse" but a cross over would probably be quite comparable to this too

True, but you can't get a 503hp 6.2L V8 under hood
I like it, it appeals to me! They are the only Luxury nameplate that makes a VAN, yes, it's a VAN, I don't care if Mercedes calls it a Grand tourer.
In fact, I almost bought a R500 off my client last week, but the reliabilty reports scared me.

I've also seen the Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) classification used by MBZ too
Since nobody want them, maybe they are cheap now, never looked. I have only seen a few on the street.
we actually have a few r350 in our community. i think i saw a r63 a while back at dealership and it was discounted so bad (new) you wonder if something was wrong haha
