Mercedes-Benz to bring next-gen GL-Class to New York
When we caught sight of this heavily-cloaked GL-Class last summer, we thought Mercedes-Benz was just refreshing its big SUV with a cosmetic facelift and maybe a new engine. New reports seem to indicate that Mercedes-Benz may be launching an all-new, second-generation GL for 2013, however.
According to Car and Driver, the new GL will be based on the M-Class. A diesel V6 is said to be in the mix, along with the twin-turbo, 402-horsepower 4.6-liter V8 also found in the ML550. The new model will debut at the New York Auto Show in April, and should hit dealers later in the year.

weird autoblog thought it's a facelift. on mbworld (and internet) it's pretty widely known that the gl will be redesigned for 2013. that's why the current gl are so deeply discounted
to be honestly the gl is pretty damn sweet car, i think the next generation hopefully interior improves further except the dash / nav area. the thing that worries me is still quality with the car being made here in the US. i have seen quite a few of them go downhill quick right after warranty (airbag first)

I'm thinking the interior will mirror ML-esque cues. I think the biggest winner here is the 4.6L TT V8 in the ML550. From the current 5.5L V8 382hp. Makes me wonder what the base engine will be apart from the turbo diesel that will arrive. Currently the GL450 is base (330ish hp), wonder if they'll soldier on with that engine or ofter something newer

that's my guess on the interior and i will surely welcome that. the current setup is silly, the screen is so low, and i hate using that joystick control. after using the idrive in my m3 and the command in my s, and lexus also pushing remote touch on all the cars, i really like the feeling of not having to lift my arm

GL63 maybe? Either way the redesign looks stunning in full trim.

the car looks great from those angles
even with the current GL they already toyed with the amg idea, but they scraped it for undisclosed reasons (i talked to mb exec about this). so i think come the next gen they will probably do the gl63. especially there is the ml63 anyway
