2015 Mazda MX-5 teased ahead of September 3 reveal
Will be more than 100 kg lighter
Mazda has released a teaser image of the 2015 MX-5 set to be unveiled on September 3.
Although its design remains hidden under the cover, we remind you Mazda Australia managing director Martin Benders has already revealed the new model "will look nothing like" the outgoing generation and that it will adopt an evolution of the firm's Kodo design language.
Details about the new Miata are scarce at the moment but we do know it will use a SKYACTIV-CHASSIS which will result in a significant diet of at least 100 kg (220 lbs) as well as a lower center of gravity. The 2015 MX-5 will adopt a front mid-mounted engine rear-wheel drive layout as well as an increased body rigidity that will boost safety in the event of a crash.
A full reveal is scheduled for September 3 and sometime in 2015 we will see an Alfa Romeo Spider reboot sharing most of the components with the new MX-5.

2016 Mazda MX-5 Prototype Filmed on the Road [VVS]
We showed you a teaser of the fourth-gen Mazda MX-5 all wrapped up like a present earlier this morning, so how about we watch a video of the prototype?
The neck-twisting clip (seriously, what's with that?) was shot by user EVOTatsuya who spotted a camouflaged tester wearing a production body in Japan.
It certainly has a curvier booty and possibly even more pronounced wheel arches than the current MX-5 while keeping the familiar shape of the previous generations of the car.
Even though the styling will no doubt be one of the main talking points of Mazda's new roadster model, it will be very interesting to see what the firm's SkyActiv chassis and powertrain technology will bring to the table.
Rumors include a reduction in weight, possibly nearing the 1,000kg mark (2,204 lbs) mark in the fabric-top model, and a new entry-level 1.5-liter four-pot for certain markets such as Europe.

What the new Miata probably needs more than anything else is a little more room inside. Although the 3Gen version is noticeably less cramped than the sardine-can 1 and 2Gen (I can actually begin to fit into it) , it is still too tight for a lot of larger adults.
