W211 E55 or E63
If you have a choice between a 2006 E55 or a 2007 E63 AMG, which would you pick. Mileage is roughly the same, E63 costs $4000 more. Over at MB forums, about 60% prefer the E55's supercharged engine. What do you think?

Apple to orange really.
E55 have much more low end torque and is much more mod friendly.
E63 sounds a lot meaner but slower.
So it depends on if you want power or sounds?
Also looks too, depends on if you prefer before or after facelift?
For me personally, I would wait for the latest Twin Turbo E63

E63, i drool when i see the last generation facelift E models. If I had the money for a bangin warranty, I would so get one. the look of that MY facelift E looks better IMO, more road presence.

Aren't the W211s about the most unreliable model MB ever made? That's all I hear when I browse around MB forums, as I was briefly considering a 2007-ish S65. Apparently there's a good reason the 2008s cost over $30k more than the 2007s.

As of late I've been spending a lot of time with AMG cars and their owners. The difference is pretty clear if you are happy with 500hp then the E63 is for you. If you fully intend to modify the car and make it faster, the E55 is for you. The E63 does have the cleaner and nicer updated front end and updates, so some E55 owners modify it by adding the E63 parts. There are some issues of course but many feel well worth the efforts.
I'll be honest for me, I think 500hp is more than enough but hanging around these guys, I can see why I would get an E55, peer pressure to make more power

w211 is the e class, it's actually pretty reliable (for mb) and over the years it has held up pretty well. especially on the amg motors and drive train, it's very strong. quite a lot of people did 600hp on the e55 setup already with minor upgrades.
2007-current s class are w221, there is not really any difference in reliability over the years imho. 2007 and 2008 s65 price difference are mainly just due to year and mileage and options.
before 2007 (up to 2006), the s class was the w220, and yes that's one super unreliable cars, tons of electronic problems and also why their prices are a lot cheaper (say compare 2006 s65 vs 2007 new style s65)
