Actually my brothers daily car is his g55 and his Ferrari is his weekend car. If you have never been in one or driven one, don't knock it.
It is built like a tank, and fast too; and it's a lot of fun to drive, it is also the only Amg car that retain its value. My brother in law is getting rid of his 7 series to get one too.
I applaud the government for waking these auto companies the **** up in regards to MPG and they CONTINUE to produce amazing high hp cars. You can have both, its not one or the other.
but you're omitting another variable - price.
people on CL ***** about the price of new cars - well, it's largely because of the insane complexity, LIABILITY and destroyed dollar - all caused by our beloved federal govt. i predict car prices will skyrocket in the next few years and truly only the "1%" will be buying those 500hp cars.

well said. i didn't even bother to reply some of the posts. ppl who can really afford g55 (or g63/65), they can care less about gas price. the g isn't for everyone, it's not perfect, but it's one hell of a car
It's unfortunate they don't offer it here, as I'd trade in both my '08 G35S and my '09 G55 for it, but I'd still not be able to afford it at over $340k.
612 HP in what looks like a tissue box. I think I will pass. My friends mother drives a G55 AMG and although its a Benz and it relatively quick, it as ugly as sin
The tissue box look is what makes it unique, all other SUV look 95% similar, from the Lexus RX to the MB ML to Infiniti, Toyota, Honda and Hyundai. They all look the same.......that sucks!
