im in the hospital right now after an 18 wheeler turned in front of me without using his signal. i had no where to go but in/under him. broken pelvis = plate & screws, fractured pelvis=wheelchair/walker/crutches 8 weeks, cracked rib. here's my bike, this was @ speed of about 45 AND decelerating as much as i could before i crashed into him.

Get well soon....

It's too bad there are more idiot riders on the road these days than not. Not looking forward to the new batch of riders about to hit NYC streets. This same video happens all the time here, just swap KPH to MPH. Which is utterly stupid considering the amount of people who have nice rims and the number of potholes you have to swerve to avoid here . And yet, riders continue to 'white line'.

Law of averages doesn't work out like it's supposed to though as somehow they survive while one of my lifelong friends and clubmembers get:

He Blazed A Trail Of Virtue. Biker's Widow Recalls Caring Spirit
BY NANCY DILLON DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Wednesday, May 10, 2006

WHEN VERONICA Beckett learned her husband had been in a horrific motorcycle crash that catapulted him off the Williamsburg Bridge to his death, her mind shut down.

"Why are you telling me this? That can't be true. You mean he fell off his bike, not a bridge," she recalled arguing with the Queens neighbor who delivered the heartbreaking news.

"It didn't make sense. His riding friends always teased him about going slow and not doing tricks," she explained, referring to fellow members of the Southside Renegades motorcycle club.

"Even this time, he was the last guy in the pack, riding in the back."

She paused and tried to make sense of the horror.

"I guess the bridge just didn't have any room for mistakes," she said.

Leonard Beckett, a loving husband and father to five adopted daughters and six foster children, was the family backbone - and always the first to suggest a backyard barbecue, vacation or trip to the bowling alley.

"He wanted to make everybody laugh. He wanted a fun home," said the grieving widow, as she leafed through family snapshots of a recent cruise to Jamaica. "He would kiss and hug us and tell us he loved us. It was routine."

The night before he died, Leonard Beckett, 38, cooked a feast of hamburgers and turkey drumsticks on the outdoor grill and relished the warm weather - a harbinger of beloved summer sports like fishing, basketball, paintball and motorcycle riding.

A smile creeped across Victoria Beckett's face as she remembered her last conversation with "Lenny."

It was about 5 p.m. last Thursday afternoon, just a few hours before the tragic accident.

The couple lounged in the sun-drenched driveway of their immaculate St. Albans house while Lenny, a maintenance man at Rochdale Village apartments, polished the chrome of his Kawasaki ZX-12. He asked his wife which helmet he should wear, and when he put it on, it squished his face.

"I told him he looked like a fat face, and he smiled at me," she said. "I thought: My husband is so tall and handsome. And no matter what I do or say, he always accepts and loves me."

He was killed about 10:20 p.m. that night after hitting a livery cab, flying over a 3-foot concrete barrier and plunging more than 100 feet into the river, cops said.

During their 18-year marriage, the devoted couple took in more than 40 foster children, the widow said."He cared for all of them," she said proudly. "Some had a harder time than others, but he would tell them to relax, that they were welcome in his house and that they should always help themselves to anything in the refrigerator." His funeral is set for 11 a.m. today at St. Luke Baptist Church in Laurelton, Queens.
Miss you Lenny!

I don't ride anymore, unless at the track and the money is worth the effort....

There's an old pilot saying: "There are old pilots, and then there bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots". Same thing applies here.

Default Unlicensed motorcyclist identified as 300 km/h rider

Police on Vancouver Island say they have tracked down an unlicensed and uninsured motorcyclist who posted a YouTube video of a terrifying high-speed run along a busy section of the Trans-Canada Highway.

The rider in the video is believed to be a 25-year-old male with 25 previous infractions, Saanich police revealed Thursday morning. The registered owner of the bike is believed to be his mother, but the bike is not insured, they said.

Police say the bike was seized last Friday, but charges have not yet been laid. They are waiting to speak with the alleged rider, but he is not co-operating with police and did not show up for for a meeting on Wednesday.

In the video, the motorcycle rockets past vehicles with the speedometer indicating close to 300 km/h, passing along the centre line, shocking even veteran traffic officers and professional motorcycle riders who have seen it.

On Wednesday, police said they had identified the IP address and the internet service provider used to post the anonymous video on YouTube, and had several tips from the public on the identity of the rider.

On Thursday, police displayed the bike they had seized — a blue Yamaha R1 — and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the high-speed ride to contact them.

The investigators determined the video was recorded on the Trans-Canada Highway, starting just north of McKenzie Ave and ending at the Millstream Road exit. Investigators believe it occurred sometime prior to April 7, when the video was posted.

In the video the "expert" claims the bike to be a R6 (around 600ccs) and the police seized a R1(around 1000ccs) Not that there is much difference on take off, but once you hit 150km/h you notice a huge difference. The color is one of the most popular for the yamahas. People are stupid to post their crimes on youtube, but it seems this guy went to some trouble to cover his tracks.

More on the moron.

The motorcycle’s owner is an Esquimalt woman, but police suspect her 25-year-old son was the offending driver, although they haven’t been able to prove that yet.

The woman has been given tickets for speeding, driving without due care, excessive speeding, and driving without insurance – all of which could result in fines totalling almost $1,500.

Police say the woman’s son has more than two dozen traffic tickets for issues such as speeding and not having a valid driver’s licence, and the motorcycle was not insured on the day the video was shot.

The video, which was posted to an anonymous YouTube account on April 8 and has been viewed more than 100,000 times, shows a motorbike zooming between cars and trucks on the divided highway.

Update - Bike has been seized (for now): http://www.vancouversun.com/Police+V...880/story.html

Saanich police have seized the blue Yamaha motorcycle seen reaching 300 km/h in a viral YouTube video, and they've laid down more than $1,400 in fines for the bike's owner but have yet to charge the driver.
The shiny blue 2006 Yamaha R1 sport bike was on display at Saanich police headquarters Thursday morning. Victoria police spokesman Sgt. Dean Jantzen explained that police seized the bike from a home in the 800-block of Craigflower Road last week.
Police believe the registered owner is the mother of the 25-year-old rider. Under the Motor Vehicle Act, police are able to serve tickets to the registered owner even if she was not driving the bike.
On Wednesday, the mother was issued tickets totalling $1,449. The breakdown was a $368 ticket for driving without due care and attention, a $483 ticket for excessive speed and a $598 ticket for no insurance.
"The Motor Vehicle Act has sections in it that require the owner to be responsible for the conduct of the vehicle and to be responsible for the person who operates the vehicle," Jantzen said.
Police are unsure if the mother has a motorcycle licence or whether she owns other motorcycles.
The 25-year-old suspected motorcyclist has no valid driver's licence and no insurance as a result of 27 driving-related convictions including speeding and driving without insurance, Jantzen said. He has had his licence suspended five times.
The driver also only had a learner's motorcycle licence, which was also suspended.
Saanich police are looking to lay criminal charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle against the motorcyclist.
"Unfortunately at this point we are unable to meet the burden [of proof] to proceed with Criminal Code charges," Jantzen said.
He said there has been "limited cooperation" between investigators and the registered owner and suspected rider. The suspect was supposed to come to the station for an interview with investigators on Wednesday and he didn't show up, Jantzen said.
Police have no power to force him to give an interview because he's not charged with an offence.
The 25-year-old lives in greater Victoria but has ties to the Okanagan and Alberta.
Police are trying to seize the motorcycle permanently under B.C.'s Civil Forfeiture Act, which allows the province to take assets that they can prove were used in the commission of an offence.
Thanks to witnesses who saw the bike fly past them on the Trans-Canada Highway, police have been able to determine the video was filmed on April 6 at about 4 p.m.
Const. Will Dodd, with the Victoria police forensic identification section, explained police were able to prove the bike seized is the same as the bike in the video thanks to five identical paint chips on the front panel.
Police admit criminal charges will be difficult because they have to prove who is riding the bike in the video.
"We are left with a motorcycle and a set of hands," Jantzen said.
Colleen Woodger, ICBC road safety coordinator, said the motorcyclist put himself and 70 other people on the road at risk by lane splitting (using the centre line to cut between cars on either side) and swerving in and out of traffic.
"Based on the actions we saw, I think we know no B.C. motorist wants this guy on the road."
Jantzen said it's frustrating that police can't do anything to ensure the rider doesn't drive recklessly in another vehicle, especially as he shows no hesitation to drive without a licence. Jantzen admitted that as long as the rider is on the road, the public is at risk.
The video has been viewed more than 223,000 times. Many of the viewers condemned the behaviour in the comments section, saying it's sheer luck the motorcyclist didn't kill himself or others on the road.

You really don't see how he's putting other people's lives in danger? He hits a pothole and veers one way or another, and he either hits another car, or cuts someone off, and they have to swerve out of the way... Heck--I can see how any of those drivers would be so startled by him just blowing by them that it could cause them to inadvertently swerve.
