Buying and Trading cars
Alright so i am buying a 2000 clk320 for $2800 (this one) http://buffalo.craigslist.org/cto/3012012939.html
and trading it for a 1999 ls400 (this one) http://buffalo.craigslist.org/cto/3012297426.html
Now the CLK needs brakes and the ls400 needs a timing belt but here is my thought on all of this. If i by the CLK for 2800 and have an overall investment of 3200 including brakes and a new grill, and straight trade for the ls400 that means i'd be getting the ls400 for technically somewhere near 3200. Even if i change the timing belt for 500 thats a total of 3700 for a 1999 ls400. Now my friends think i'm crazy, but the CLK is in pretty good nic and just needs brakes and a grill. Anyone have any input on this?
Also, how do i go about getting plates for the car. Can i just take the plates off my current car and put them on the CLK to drive home? What exactly goes into getting the car into my name? Sounds like a stupid question, but people may have different experiences then me. I know for a fact that NY is not a state where the license plate stays with the car.

Ya it is in NY to i thought that was how it worked. I am calling the DMV tomorrow. I wasn't planning on buyign a Mercedes, but this one is cheap and a good color. All service record since 2007, 3 owners, 2 of which are brothers, and it is originally from fLORIDA. Zero accidents and clean title to

How much in towing would it be? If you have some kind of roadside assistance membership such as AAA or know a tow truck driver, you won't need plates. Just get the benz owner to sign over the title and take the title to the LS owner. That way you avoid paying tax on the benz or having to get insurance on the benz. Unless you had a different plan?

I went to go see the Mercedes today, and i didn't go for it. Even though it was only in Canada for 4 years they car was rusting on numerous body panels and didn't want to risk it. If the body was in better shape i would have done it, but it's to big a risk to just be doing this as a hobby.

i've driven vehicles bought all the way from GA to south FL using my own plates. I dont think theres an issue if the plates and the new car title is in the same name, and that you are that person driving. Definitely check into the laws though.

I'm looking into a BMW 318 convertible at an auction it's a 1995 in good condition and 183k miles for 1500. KInd of pissed the Mercedes thing didn't work out but if it wasn't meant to be you need to just walk away
