Subaru Tribeca getting the axe?

Could it be? Could Subaru finally be killing the Tribeca?
We'll admit it. We've been waiting for this day since we first spied the 2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca. So has every other too-clever-by-half automotive journalist who slammed Subie's range-topper when it debuted in late 2005, looking like it had been styled by whatever group-think team General Motors had canned for unleashing the Pontiac Aztek on the world. We never thought Plan B9 From Outer Space would last this long to begin with, and we wouldn't be surprised if someone told us that Subaru has been keeping the slow-selling, three-row crossover in production just to keep the automotive journalist peanut gallery from gloating. We do love to gloat.
Of course, the report from Motor Trend is nothing more than a rumor at this stage, and Subaru's official response is that there will be a 2013 model year Tribeca. And who knows, maybe the powers that be at Fuji Heavy Industries will shove another delightfully refreshed model year down the pipeline. Volvo's been doing it for years.

I thought it got the axe a couple of years ago! I only found out it was still kicking around when I was in the market for a CUV this year. I didn't look at it...

Except for the third-row seat (for those who need one), there is, IMO, very little reason for purchasing a Tribeca over a six-cylinder Outback (one reason, of course, among many, for the Outback's huge popularity). The Tribeca not only costs more, but, IMO, its interior-quality is not as well-done as the Outback, and it drives like an appliance. I test-drove a Tribeca some months ago, and I was less-impressed with it than with any other American-market Subaru.

I have never heard of this vehicle until now, so might not be a bad idea to axe it. I was in the market for SUVS a couple of years ago and this never was mentioned. I would like to think I know about 95% of the vehicles that are available for sale in Canada.

I first saw this cart when Subaru is sponsoring Camelback Ski resort with the Tribeca (maybe 2006). Its looks pretty decent in person. Unlike most other SUV out there, I must said I like it. Just never have a change to drive one.

I like the current sytling. It's mild and conservative, but clean. It was the first version that was awful and as mentioned, that is what everyone is referring to when saying this thing is a dog. Sadly, half the auto journalists out there aren't making the distinction between the original and the facelifted version.
The biggest problem with this vehicle is where it's sold. Subaru is not known for peddling large SUV's. This would sell much better at a Chevy or Chrysler dealership with said badges.
