Default New to modding cars

Hey Guys and Gals,

I've always been into cars, but having just recently purchased an IS350 and knowing that I'll have it for a while (and considering that I can actually afford to modify my car), I'm interested in getting into this crazy hobby.

I typically self teach myself various things through reading but I dont know where to begin. Perhaps, a book on Lexus' or maybe just imports in general? Can anyone recommend any books to get started on this stuff? I'd like to develop a general game plan to figure out what sorts of things to do first and also just develop general knowledge in the subject (ie. Should I spend money on my engine first or suspension. I know its subjective, but you know what I mean. Considering best bang-for-buck performance, etc.)

Any help/direction would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Spend time in the 2IS section, and start off with the 2IS FAQ thread.

Suspension and wheels are performance and appearance mods. I think that's where you should start. What model year did you get?

Yes, check the 2nd Generation IS section, I was new too. Check out the FAQ thread, tons of stuff there.

first lesson in modification is: safety first, safety always.
invest in a good garage jack, 4 jack stands, wheel chocks, and eye protection.
never work under a car unless you have jack stands installed.
disconnet your battery when working on electrical systems.

And one of the most important rules when it comes to appearance, lower your car before you get wheels. The 350 is fast out the box so I'd only install a intake and exhaust mainly for sound.

And always do the research first, don't buy cheap/knock-off stuff, do it once and do it right. As always, happy modding.

My true honest advice is, save your modding money and trade up to a IS-F................OEM performance is the best bang for the buck

You only start modding if you max out on the OEM side.
