Jeremy Clarkson has said, publicly (and these are his words, not mine), that he dislikes the Prius probably more than any other car. (I take it he hasn't driven a Smart-for-Two LOL).

TOM's Racing Previews New Toyota Prius
http://www.carscoops.com/2015/12/tom...ew-toyota.html
Tuning company TOM's Racing has previewed its upcoming body-kit and tuning upgrades for the popular hybrid.

Understandably, TOM's Racing has decided to add some much needed aggression to the 2016 Prius and has done just that with the updated front end.

Toyota's all-new hybrid sports a custom bumper as well as blacked-out elements surrounding the daytime running lights that give off the impression of being air intakes.

Additionally, the tuner has elected to install a new front lip spoiler which doesn't only make the hybrid significantly more menacing but also perfectly complements the rest of the visual modifications. At the sides, extended skirts have been fitted as have a set of large alloy wheels.

The changes are completed at the rear with a new bumper, bold diffuser and, rather amusingly, quad stacked tailpipes similar to those of the Lexus IS F.

Rounding off the initial upgrades is a lowered suspension. At this stage, TOM's Racing hasn't announced whether it intends to tune the hybrid power-train of the Prius or not.

Looks good.

Let's check out what’s new with the green machine that started it all, the Toyota Prius.

I used to bash the Prius until we bought one. Can't complain about $20 gas fill ups and unrestricted use of the HOV lane (at least til 1/1/2019..).

All the talk back then about how toyota was working on something other than Li ION batteries to explain why they didn't jump on the band wagon when everyone else was moving towards the new battery tech. Fire and heat, they said, etc etc. And now, the Prius FINALLY gets Li ION battery packs, but to add insult to injury, doesn't include it in the base model. So all this time, it really was cost. The bean counters got their way at Toyota.

Toyota has said that they were concerned about reliability and durability issues with LiIon batteries; overheating and fire are well-known and would be major concerns. We know that one of Toyota's major concerns is reliability and durability of its components.

But that is not to say that Toyota has not continued to work on batteries, including LiIon batteries. And what few realise is that there are many different LiIon battery chemistries, so the batteries that Toyota is using now in the Gen4 Prius may have a different chemistry from what was used in the Gen3 Prius Plug-in, and a different chemistry from what Toyota was researching when the Gen3 Prius first came out in 2009.

Using a LiIon battery in this special version and the Gen3 Prius Plug-in only confirms that LiIon batteries have a greater capacity than the NiMH battery that Toyota normally uses (and more expensive than NiMH batteries). The faults of LiIon batteries still outweigh the benefits of NiMH batteries.
