Angry forced add-on packages (like toyoguard)

so i know car dealers have played this game for years, but i didn't know that maybe a couple of toyota's big regional distributors are playing it for the dealers.

new toyotas at my local dealer all seem to have this 'toyoguard' package included, at a whopping $699. it's obviously pure fluff and profit, but from reading this thread of a few years back, it seems like toyota's south eastern regional distributor (i still don't understand why toyota has a distributor!) adds the package before the car even reaches the dealer (that is, if they do anything at all in fact except put a sticker on the window ).

http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forum...p-rip-off.html

here's a list of what it includes. apparently you can negotiate some of it out, but of course you're then negotiating from a price $700 higher than it would otherwise be.

thoughts?

Yeah that is pretty much a rip off $700 oil change. Honda dealers like to do that too but it's the "all weather" $900 package that includes a very cheap feeling rubber floor mats and wheel locks.

II's bogus. I walked thru a nearby Hyundai dealer last Sunday and all of the cars, SUV's etc. that I looked at had an $1,100 package of stuff added on to the sticker. Een the economy models.

If was buying I'd go elsewhere.

Gulf States Toyota has a very similar ripoff package, I'd just make them discount it that much more.

All new Toyotas sold in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and Oklahoma—more than 250,000 vehicles per year—pass through our Vehicle Processing Center before their safe transport to dealerships.

All Canadian Lexus dealers use the Freight, PDI and "Handling" as a cash cow ($1995) when the same at the US dealers is usually in the $800 range. Lexus Canada is a distributor for Lexus NA.

How does corporate let them do this? $699 for this package, BUT corporate provides 2 years / 25K miles roadside assist, and regular maintenance for FREE.

How ridiculous! This is why I hate the new car shopping scene. I would pick such a fraudulent ploy to pieces and make a car salesman feel terrible about offering it, then I would take his pen.

Typical dealer rip off.

It doesn't apply to me as I only buy used car

New car dealer can kiss my ***

All my local new car dealer hates me as they know they can't get a buck from me, and I actually rip them off...........LOL

you can't in FL at least, cuz the Toyota 'distributor' adds the package before the cars go to the dealer.

It doesn't matter, they are all in the same scam together.

I think I said too much already. I got my benefits and it is better if no one knows about it.

All dealers do it, I was just at the Infiniti dealer and a G37 coupe had a stillen intake on it, the add on window sticker was 2595.00, complete profit, in fact all the cars had a crazy appearance package upgrade, but I left after I laughed about it with several other customers and the fat salesman where getting aggravated

My opinion, just start the negotiation minus whatever that add on is

Seems another one is "NItrogen Air" in Tires. Noticed it was a $700 add on on nearly all cars at the lot when we looked at Muranos 2 years ago.

Nothing new here, everyone does it.
