BMW ActiveHybrid 3 is an efficient use of 340 hp

i never said hybrid will never catch up and save money. i have no doubt it can be the future. when it matures even more, even more efficient, even more popular and thus lower cost, it will come to a point where hybrid will make a lot of sense and save money (point of return) very soon.
my point is simply that right now, i am still very unsure how hybrid is saving money overall. i can understand about green, i can understand about environmental conscious, those are great. but i don't know if money is one of them

You think Camry Hybrid driver doesnt save money over 4cly, while being faster? It does.
In the same way diesels do in Europe - diesels are $3k premium over petrols and thats where Camry Hybrid and Prius c are right now. It is very very comparable money wise, similar $$$, similar gains, similar payoff.
it is just that you guys are not used to it. You have to calculate resale value of the car into the cost.

I think with the performance hybrids, its the power, torque and instant response that is the selling point. The fuel efficiency and small carbon footprint are bonuses.
I was sceptical about performance hybrids but my test drive of the new GS450h F-Sport last week has made me a believer. For me, the performance cars of tomorrow will be hybrids. That's how good the GS hybrid F-Sport was....

Just an example of what a GS450h engine is capable of :

i just read in latest Autobild how diesels are now 27% of all cars on German roads, and it took them 20 years to go from 12% to 27%, despite subsidized price of fuel.
so people expect miracles in few years.
so how was GS450h?

It's a rocket.
I don't believe the quoted hp numbers. I firmly believe the GS450h F-Sport's hp is deliberately underrated so as not to attract a higher tax in some countries (like my own). And the beauty of a performance hybrid? It doesn't seem to run out of steam even at high speeds, unlike mainstream diesels, it just keeps accelerating....

We can do a cost/benefit analysis on any vehicle purchase. Again,, not sure why people break out the calculators to try to argue why a hybrid doesn't make sense.
I'll be sure to many a nice announcement in person at the next Lexus meet for deleting posts. Can't delete that!

Show me someone who's said buying hybrids to save money overall, and I'd show you someone who's uninterested in debating the merits of his/her purchase.
