2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Strips More Cladding
The new 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222) has been seen doing desert testing in the Southwest. Looking at it pretty much an evolutionary redesign taking bits from C216 CL and the W221 S-Class. The new S-Class will likely debut next week. Hopefully it will be a fair competition between the 2013 Lexus LS and the new S. There's more info here at Motor Authority.

Looks like a clean evolution...looking forward to it.
As for S Class vs. LS, I think a heavily refreshed LS will have a hard time competing with a brand new S Class, but we also don't really have any information on either. Heavily revised sheetmetal, an updated interior, upgraded suspension and a power boost could keep the LS in the game, but that's a lot to expect from a refresh.

This looks somewhat staged to me. How is it that three different sites have images of the same "534" prototype in different locations and also taken up close? It seems odd, but it's possible.

Those steel wheels are atrocious looking, but I can understand that the new ones are patented and therefore not being used in real-world testing for protection purposes.

somewhere i read before, part of the reason for a longer hood is to try distance the engine from the cabin more for noise insulation.
it does have a lot of w221 hue in it, though both the front and the rear look very different with the w216 feel, ie slicker and more aggressive
