I agree, Audi's recent "S" offerings don't line up with the competition- also bugs me. The new RS5 however looks so slick, I forgive it for not having crazy horsepower. Based on looks alone, I think it's a bargain.

It already has a lot of horsepower sure, my biggest gripe is just how Audi positions their A, S, and RS lines against the competition. Point in case the RS6 Avant and it's bonkers Bi-Turbo V10 571hp. Even the new S8 flagship sedan has 520hp out of it's 4.0L V8. Iono just one of those things that bugs me hah!
for audi, they just have a for the lowest level, then s for the higher grade, and then then the rs being the real high end sport version.
so it's like a4 against 328 and c250, a6 against 535 and e350
then you have s4 against 335 and c350, s6 against 550 and e550
rs4/5 against m3 and c63, rs6 against m5 and e63
unlike in the past, where you had a4 2.0T and then 3.2, or a6 3.2 and 4.2. there is no number anymore.
for the s8, it's a bit out of norm i agree, it has more power than s550 and 750il. but i guess in that case they want to somewhat cover the higher end since there is no rs8

actually someone (forgot who) gave me a pretty good break down. for bmw and mb, they have 2 variants (in general) for the lineup, say 350 and 550, and then the amg.

Don't ask me why but things that don't line up bug me hah. I like to think of the German manufacturers like chess pieces each with a model to match the competition

I get it, makes sense, but I don't feel like Audi is utilizing their RS moniker to it's full potential though. Forget which magazine pitted the S6 vs the E63 and M5 recently but the two latter's lost to the S6 which was down at least 100hp. Good for the Audi, but have to wonder how an RS6 would fair.
