Bought A Mercedes W126
I finally snapped and bought a Mercedes, its a 1989 Mercedes 420sel with 142k miles. Now it hasn't been registered on the road since 2007, but it was stored in a barn and moved around. It is gray on black and in pretty good condition. Minor rust spots but nothing coming through. As far as what is wrong with it here is the list:
-No radio
-Missing power seat adjustments
-spongy brakes but good pads
-no service records
-missing part of the exhaust
The Good
- Solid body great interior (minus missing pieces
-color combo
- 2 owner
-good tires
-no leaks or smoke coming out
Now for the best part, the price, is $800. Since it isn't insured or registered or inspected, i couldnt get a thorough test drive on the highway, but i had a go on some back country roads and it went pretty well. I didn't want a perfect car, just a car to mess around with and i love these things. If something bad does happen, ill probably part out most of it then scrap it. I have to still pick it up and sign the papers, so it isnt in my possession yet but its 95% mine as of now as long as nothing comes up, i had no way to bring it home since i can't drive it on the road legally. Here are some pics and info, input, or comments are welcome.

Not my kind of car, but it sounds like you got a great deal! Congratulations on the purchase, I'm sure it'll be fun to restore it/fix it.

My father had a 1984 SEC500 until about two years ago. Nobody liked it in the family because it ate gas like it was free, was a coupe so it was hard to get in and out, and also we didnt drive it so the battery kept dying.
Along with those issues, the radio barely worked, the rear defroster didnt work, the air con didnt work, the windows didnt seal and had problems going up, the speedo stuck...the list goes on. Mechanically though, it was pretty flawless. lol

My buddy had one of those, car was mint with 200k on the clock, slight puff on start up but other then that ran well, he took me for a drive and had the car up to 140 on a small stretch its an old classic but parts are hard to find depending what your looking for and maybe not cheap

Nice! That's a great price. My grandpa has had many of these older Benz's and they are great. For the most part, they are pretty reliable, but the best part is that they are built like tanks. My grandpa had a REALLY bad wreck in one and all of the passengers inside walked away alive. But like Venom posted, parts can be expensive if you need something.
