Anyone notice that the gap between invoice and list seems to be shrinking?

My guess is because the public can easily see invoice prices and many try to get the vehicle for close to invoice, invoice and under.I believe many if not all auto manufacturers are tightening the gap between invoice and list.
Unknown to the public auto manufacturer to dealer incentives are probably in play now and will stay that way.

I've not paid that much attention but that does not surprise me. I figured at some point they would increase invoice price and leave the sticker relatively stable. I guess it doesn't really matter anyway since dealers don't really pay "invoice" for those cars anyway...

Invoice is just a starting point. There are many national, regional, seasonal and volume discounts at play that you will never come to know.

it's very common practice to give cars a few hundred over or under invoice these days. The battle of MSRPs is over. Sales people don't make the "thousand" they used to on a car, in fact at our automall they make $200 per car that's it, no more no less. The industry has certainly changed, and consumers have so many tools now at their disposal that if they can't get a screaming deal either they lack IQ points, a spine or both.

Both are made up prices, the cars usually sell based on the popularity and the customers who must have it.

I have a couple friends who work in dealerships, every time they show me how they change a cars value so they make more on the sale I laugh, I asked them about sticker price and invoice and they said that is why we change the value in the system, so the customer gets the deal they wanted and the dealer makes more on the car

Dealers are like Casinos even when you think you won, you did not, you are playing a game they made up, and they constantly change the rules, the way to win is walk in, know the price of a car and pay cash, any other way your kidding yourself
