I remember them doing this last year when the CT debuted. I think they even had some corny trivia questions too.

Lexus did it in the past, Hyundai did it for the Genesis and there was one other I can't think of...

I don't understand. Wouldn't advertising in between some popular shows be a lot more effective than advertising non-stop in a dedicated channel? I don't know about others, but I for one would never tune in to a channel just to watch commercials.

It must not be too expensive and might catch some viewers surfing through the channels.

I don't know. I think it may catch random surfers who are already fond of Lexus, but most others, whom these commercials should really be meant for, will simply surf right past it. By placing the commercials in between popular shows they'll at least catch those who don't bother to switch away while waiting for the next segments of their favorite shows. It may cost more but at least the cost-effectiveness ratio will be a lot better than this dedicated channel approach IMHO.

In the past Directv would have a pop-up on the lower corners of the screen during a live commercial prompting the viewer to turn to that channel for more info. Or they would have an advertisement running on the channel guide. That's how I always found out about it previously. I'm sure this will be no different.

A chain of chicken rotisserie restaurants around here bought a full channel where they had a loop of the video for chickens being roasted. Every once in a while, a code to input into their FB page would pop up and that gave access to discount coupons and promotions. Except for the smell, the channel had all the making of watching the real deal at a restaurant.
