Well, that's one reason why Saturn used to have a 30-day new-car money-back guarantee. If you weren't satisfied with the car for any reason in the first month (even if you decided the color wasn't for you), just bring it back with clear title and no significant damage and get a full refund, minus tax/tags.

It's just stupid not to test drive. For most people it will be their second biggest purchase of their life. Also when I was in car sales, customers who didn't test drive are treated as not being serious and there will be zero negotation before the test drive.

i find test drives dont even tell your whether the car is good or not , just if its bad.

i test drove a s2k and thought it was the best thing ever, then after driving it for a few weeks decided it was not reliable as a daily

No need to test drive anything when there's events like Taste of Lexus. Last two cars I leased I never test drove, thanks to those events.
Also, with so much information in blog sites and auto mags, one can pretty much gain all he/she needs to know. If one needs to test drive a car because he's not sure how it rides, he's not done enough research. All the answers are already out there.
A third reason, once a dealership has you in the driver's seat, he's now in the driver's seat.

If/When I buy a new car I've already made up my mind which car to get so I don't really need a test drive. I test drive the car just for the heck of it, then buy the color and combo option car of my choice. Used cars though I test drive just to know what I'm getting into.

*raises hand*

I never test drove my RX300, RX330, and did a 5 minute loop on the C class and RXh.

I can't imagine not test driving for myself. I'm too big, have too much trouble fitting into certain cars due to my wide frame, and am too particular about cars and how they drive in general. I can see a lot of people not test driving though. More "average" sized people who aren't going to have any trouble fitting in the car, and aren't particular about how a car drives or handles will just buy based on whatever their priorities are (looks nice, reliable, good mileage, etc) and simply pick the color!

My dad bought the both new car Corolla & Sienna without test drive
all the used car I bought I only test drive the sc430

Some people just treat their car as transportation only. MPG and reliability is their only concern

I test drove the new GS and new Camry & go a total of $125 giftcard from Toyota/Lexus.......that was a well worth test drive. BTW.....I don't really like the driving experience of the GS.

If you think that's crazy, I would say that 90% of motorcycle buyers have never test-ridden their motorcycles.

There are many reasons: most dealerships don't to test rides due to liability (too many newbies and squids on the road). Also, since the test rider will most likely ride alone, there is no way for a dealer to monitor what that rider will do while out on the road (burnouts, wheelies, poppies, and such). Most motorcycles are bought because it's an emotional frivolous purchase, rather than a functional one (I mean, do most guys really need a 1000cc+ engine? Really?? ). Most motorcycle purchases are based on brand loyalty and "the need for speed", which equates to planning to buy a motorcycle by a brand with a specific engine size, test ride be damned!

If car buying was based on emotion, speed, and frivolity; there will never be any test rides at all. But then again, have you ever seen test drives at Ferrari or Maserati dealership before?

My parents bought our Escalade, GX470, and SL2 without actually test driving or seeing the cars in person before buying them. The Escalade had a blown out rear window when it was delivered and the GX was missing a cup holder.

I personally would prefer to test drive the car before I buy one.
