cant believe they got rid of the quad front side part lighting...looks like considerable changes to the top part but not much to the returning which is often belittled for being too basically. Also the cooking area bbq position looks unusual with the program gap just like the ES

Next-generation Mercedes E63 AMG caught undisguised in Spain
![](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2012/11/eclassamg.jpg)
An alert enthusiast in Madrid, Spain was quick enough to snap a picture of what looks like the next-generation Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and send it to Autofacil. Caught staged during what appears to be a photo or video shoot, the reader, Victor Poza, wrote that after sundown the street was watered and the sedan was placed with a view of skyskrapers in the distance.
A few weeks ago, a camouflaged prototype was snapped at the Nürburgring, its face and sides mostly hidden. Poza's photo allows a glimpse of the single-piece headlights and the new upper and lower grille treatments – much cleaner and more expressive than the face of the current car. It looks like the AMG version gets a chromed lower element to set itself apart. And sure enough, the pontoon fenders have been retired to, well, wherever it is that pontoons live since it is no longer on the fenders of automobiles.
An intense refresh of the E-Class, at least one report has stated that all of the sheetmetal is new except for the roof and front doors. Underneath the skin will come more avant-garde gadgetry like the suspension that adjusts to the profile of the road based on the image provided by camera, and a night vision system that can detect pedestrians and animals. Inside is expected to be a greater use of leather, wood and metal.

The new front-end with single (instead of quad) headlamp units seen on a completely naked version of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG sedan parked outside a hotel in Madrid last month, will also decorate the fascia of the rest of the E-Class family that includes the Estate (station wagon), Coupe and Convertible models.
However, that was to be expected. What we weren't sure about was whether Mercedes-Benz would also eliminate the so-called "Pontoon" style fenders on the two-door models, as it did on the revamped sedan.
Judging by these scoop shots of the convertible as well as previous photos of coupe prototypes, the two-door models of the E-Class series will keep the sculpted rear fenders intact, while changes at the rear end will focus a redesigned bumper and new graphics for the tail lamps.
The interiors of all E-Class models will gain better materials and possibly some styling modifications to the dashboard.
As for the mechanical hardware, we expect Mercedes to make improvements to the efficiency of the E-Class' engines and transmissions.

The story of the facelifted 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class family of models is slowly starting to unfold with the Stuttgart-based premium carmaker dropping the first of what we assume to be a series of official teaser videos before the new model launches at the Detroit auto show in January.
In a video that's less than a minute long, the brand with the star gives us a close up of the 2014 E-Class' new individual headlamp units that replace the current model's quad arrangement.
The clip ends with a quote from famed American designer, Charles Ormond Eames that reads: "The details are not the details. They make the design".
Along with the reshaped headlamps, all E-Class body styles will feature a redesigned fascia, including the grille, bumper and hood, and some less noticeable changes to the rear end, while the sedan will also lose the sculptured rear fenders.

The lighting will probably look good based on that video but decoration has never been a Mercedes weak point. Instead the current crop of cars have really underwhelming bodywork.
