Autobild: First Lexus comparo win in the history (GS450h vs BMW ACH5 vs M35h)-ssckm.jpg

Autobild has published their first Lexus sedan comparo win in the history of publication. All previous versions of CT, IS, GS, LS have been deemed as poor substitutes for fine German automobiles. Well not anymore.

GS450h has won over 5 series ACH and M35h:
+ driving dynamics
+ better back seat usability than 5 series
+ better trunk
+ better integrated hybrid system
+ much better consumption

- worse brakes
- slightly worse acceleration (but deemed still fast)
- not distinctive enough looks (?)

They also tested base model of GS, so no rear wheel system or active suspension or big brakes. It was equiualent to the base model in the USA.

Numbers compared to other tests from Autobild

vs 530d
+ faster
- slightly more consumption (0.5l more)

vs 535d
+ slightly faster
+ less consumption (0.9l less)

Previously GS450h has been deemed to have superior technology compared to German cars, but the rest of the car was reviewed so poorly that it always ended up DEAD last. So for GS450h to win over German competition is big news and big change of perception, this does not happen every day, month or year... Jaguars are rated so poorly they dont even test them against German brands, but against luxury Peugeots.

I will post some scans if I can find them as they have a LOT more info, since they do track tests

Congrats to Lexus! I am guessing that the standing was 1. Lexus 2. BMW 3. Infiniti?

yes... Infiniti was very very distant 3rd place... like 3GS or any other Lexus in Autobild comparo's to date.

I think the GS is the most attractive vehicle here IMO, and I usually like the new 5-Series.

Too bad they didn't choose the model with the full LED lights:

One of the best looking cars in the segment.

Didn't the regular GS F sport won the comparo in June's Motortrend issue, against M35, A6, and 535I? So not the first win ever.

Sure but they screwed up the look of the HID headlamps. The LEDs by contrast look pure evil.
