The 2013 Ford Explorer Sport goes on sale this fall, packing a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, premium interior features and sporty (sort of) exterior design elements. And while Ford originally told us that the Sport would produce "at least 350 horsepower," we've now learned that the top-trim Explorer will churn out 365 hp and 360 pound-feet of torque. If that sounds familiar, it's because those are the same totals found in the Taurus SHO sedan, which shares its engine.
365 hp and 360 lb-ft are a welcome improvement over the 290 hp and 255 lb-ft present in the naturally aspirated V6 model. Fuel economy doesn't suffer horribly, either. The Sport is officially rated at 16/22 miles per gallon (city/highway), compared to 17/23 in the regular, all-wheel-drive model. For reference, Ford points out that the Explorer Sport is more efficient than both the V8-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango.
When it hits dealerships, the 2013 Explorer Sport will be priced from $40,720, not including $825 for destination.

I sampled a previous verson of the 3.5L Ecoboost V6 (350 ft-lbs. of torque) when I reviewed both versions of the Lincoln MKT a while ago, and, while it obviously had more spunk than the standard powerplant, I still didn't find it all that impressive. Of course, the Explorer is probably somewhat lighter than an MKT, and maybe a little easier for the new Ecoboost to haul around.

Amazing to see so many new cars with no real improvement in gas mileage

The Explorer even in regular trims is neat. This Sport version builds upon this awesomeness even further

However, in fairness to Ford, these new Ecoboost engines at the very least have some improvements. Sure, the improvements were mostly geared to provide more HP and torque............but there are some fuel economy and emission improvements. I also believe that power-to-weight ratio for the newer generation is better than the old one.
Anyways, for the Sport version, I wouldn't care about fuel economy, I expect to burn as much fuel and as much money as I can.
This is the Explorer Sport version. If I have to fuel the car up to a full tank even THRICE a day, then I expect to do so.
That's just how it is. =)
I can figure someone from my country asking me "This is Ford Explorer Sport is an American car right? Aren't American cars known for bad fuel economy?"
Then my reply will be: "Fuel economy? What's that?"

Tell me about it, when I was in the Philippines, people I talked to found it unfathomable that anybody would want a V8. I was talking to a friend there about cars, and he mentioned an old 80's chevy van that had been imported to the Philippines, and they had removed the V8 and installed a 4 cylinder diesel.
