This car looks amazing and given the target market it carries over the design cues from the concept beautifully. Don't hold your breath on a higher end engine though that would be amazing especially given the low curb weight.

Mazda6 performance and coupe models mooted, all-wheel drive under consideration too

AutoExpress reports Mazda is already looking at ways to give the company's 2014 Mazda6 a little more heat. The company isn't throwing out too many details at the moment beyond saying executives are looking at the possibility of creating a spiritual successor to the Mazdaspeed6. While speaking with the publication, Hiroshi Kajiyama, program manager for the Mazda6, admits a performance version has lots of potential, and that such a machine would be helpful for the brand. If a hotter four-door hits the market, it will likely be lighter than its common sibling with around 100 fewer pounds to lug around. It may also bow with a turbocharged version of the currently-available diesel mill.

Meanwhile, Autocar reports the new Mazda6 may spawn a two-door variant as well. Akira Tamatani, Mazda chief designer, said he would love to make such a vehicle, though no solid decision has been made one way or the other. What else does Mazda have planned for its newest model? Developers are sweating over the possible addition of an all-wheel drive system to help the machine better compete in foul-weather markets.

I would love an MPS version but in automatic (too lazy to drive manual in day to day traffic).

I will take it in automatic if they get to make the automatic as good as the one in the IS250

In Europe they will have 180hp turbo diesels, which is good enough and more than enough, but in US, they will definitely need stronger engine than base...

An MPS all-wheel drive version would be awesome............as long as it comes with automatic gearbox.

ridiculously good looking and as true to concept as I can see. Hope this works out for Mazda. The last 6 did not age well, IMHO. They will need more bang under the hood. Hope the performance model brings something special.

Looks nice, I love the aggressive snouty grille.

but the concept version looks more aggressive, yet they look almost identical. I wish they just took the concept and made it the actual version.

I'd take this over the camry and altima. I got to see this in person.

Wagon/estate version:

Regardless of the bodystyle, this new Mazda 6 is indeed a winner in the styling department

Default 2014 Mazda6 to spawn coupe and Mazdaspeed variants?

2014 Mazda6 to spawn coupe and Mazdaspeed variants?

Word has it Mazda may be mulling a return to the coupe market with a two-door version of its shapely new Mazda6. Auto Express cites unnamed sources as saying the car will bow at the Moscow Motor Show next year and will likely feature the 2.2-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine found in the sedan. Good for 173 horsepower, that mill can hustle the four-door to 60 mph in under 7.8 seconds. But Mazda may also turn out a quicker MPS trim (read: Mazdaspeed) when it comes to the coupe, complete with a turbocharged gasoline four cylinder with upwards of 260 hp.

According to the report, there's also some indication the MPS version of the coupe will bow with an all-wheel drive system borrowed from the CX-5 crossover. Both products share basic architecture, theoretically making it easier to swap parts between the two. Auto Express says the two door could bow as early as 2014 with the high-performance variant following along shortly thereafter. Stay tuned.
