This comparison video with the Panamera GTS and his criticisms of the M5, calling it a blunt hammer rather than a precision driving instrument encapsulates why and how BMW has completely lost its way as a maker of "The Ultimate Driving Machine".
Hey BMW, we already have a fast luxurious cruiser with silly straightline torque, it's called an AMG. I shouldn't complain though. BMW dropping the ball on the new 5 series/M5 has allowed Lexus to leapfrog BMW in the handling stakes.

Versus the other brand vehicles that ARE rated at the 15% loss assumption. Nissan/Infiniti does this, though Toyota doesn't. G37 makes '330hp' and makes 270whp on the dyno. IS350 makes '306hp' and makes 270whp on the dyno. 335i makes '300hp' and makes 270whp on the dyno. Moan about fanboys all you want, it's still a 4300lb vehicle that traps 120+ mph. CTS-V what?.

I don't know why a lot of people thinking the 5 drives like the 7. I have a 7 and drove a new 5 for a while. Even though the 5 is based on the 7 platform, the 2 cars drive completely different. The 5 being whole lot more sporty than the 7. Maybe it become softer and less angile than the E60 and E39 ( I had an E39 too ), but saying the 5 now drives just like a 7 is not correct.

Almost bought one, know more about the 2JZ engine than most, and I didn't want a near 20 year old car anymore, bought the German version instead.
Last I checked it came out in 1993. How is that pertinent to this discussion? Where is the Supra Turbo in Toyota's current lineup?
Besides that point, the Supra regularly hits about 300whp stock with a rating of 320hp. This only bolsters my point that Toyota does not use a 15%-loss static rating like Nissan/Infiniti does.
Agreed. Which is why the G37 is a terrible car. The car is too heavy for that engine. It is MUCH better in the 370z (a car that weighs about 600lbs less). Call me biased on that one though One side benefit of the 3.7L motor is how much stronger internally it is than its predecessors. The VVL and the stout bottom-end yield some AWESOME numbers in the aftermarket. There's a turbokit that I'm looking at that puts down over 600whp on pump gas and is supposedly very reliable.

How soon we forget the Japanese power rating debacle of 2004, where pretty much all the Japanese automakers were forced to drop their advertised power ratings across the board due to more than a few loopholes they were exploiting in the old SAE J1349 (1995) standard, that were closed in 2004. It's probably more accurate to say that the 2GR-FSE and the N54/N55s are putting out about what they're supposed to give or take some, and that Nissan has found another loophole to exploit with their VQ37VHR. Is the G37 really 'losing' 60hp through its drivetrain? I doubt it.

I just keep thinking of how much power the tuners can get out of this thing. With some ECU tuning and simple bolt ons I am sure this thing could easily make 650 - 700 HP . I saw one last week at the BMW offices in NJ and it was a good looking car. I look forward to driving one

As for power on the M5/M6, wait until more tuners come around with more aggressive tuning profiles plus extra mods (like downpipes, intake, etc). I have no doubt we'll see 700whp cars on E85 mixes.
