As stated earlier, if you don't have a spare, you shred your tire at 12:00am in some place like hillsbillyburg WV, then roadside assitance takes 3 hours to find you and tow you to Cooter's garage, which doesn't open until 7. Then old Cooter tells you

"Man we don't stock none of them fancy low profile 255/30/R19 tires around here. I can order one from the warehouse up in Wheeling, gonna take a day or two to get here." Same exact thing happened on Top Gear, Jesda shredded a tire on a SLS Benz in North Carolina, there wasn't a tire that size to be found in the whole state.

I'm not an advocate of run-flats. They ride miserably and do not even offer any handling advantage for the loss of ride comfort. What I am saying is that if I suffer a flat out on the highway, I'm just going to keep on going to the nearest tire shop and let them worry with it. There's no way I'm stopping at the roadside. I've seen instances where some drunk drives as far as 20 feet off the roadway while he rubbernecks some poor guy changing a tire. The price of a new tire, even an expensive rim, doesn't compare to the cost of an ER visit or a funeral. I'm not about to get out of my car to change a tire anywhere near traffic just to have some rummy run me over because he's never seen a guy change a tire before.
