This evening I went to a grand opening event for Lexus of Santa Barbara and got to meet Stephen from Lexus Headquarters. Some of you may have met him at the Lexus of Westminster meet. He's the guy that showed up in the silver ISF CCS-R style prototype. I believe him to be a pretty credible source.

He shared some info with me regarding the 3IS. As we know, it's going to be released next June as a 2014 model with the same drivetrains as the current generation. However during the mid cycle refresh of the 3IS, the 250 model will get a twin turbo 4 cylinder engine, while the 350 will be upgraded to a twin turbo 6 cylinder with over 350 HP...which is what I'll be waiting for.

The convertible hardtop version will be replaced with a ragtop model.

The LF-CC concept will not be branded as an IS, but rather a new model to fit as a coupe between the IS and GS model.

The F-Sport IS model won't have the bumper bar across the spindle grill.

nah,4 years from now, 350hp will be standard for a 335, audi s4 and the is350. The next gen ISF should put out 450 to stay competitive with the upcoming m3 and rs4

As the F brand gets more popular and widespread, we'll see ECU hacks more frequently and opening up these motors true identities
lexus ECUs will probably be even more "uncrackable" than now, Im sure we'll see a piggy back or two, yes, but short of TOMS (if they will still be around), Gazoo racing or an Fsport tune i doubt we will see many options.
my logic is this if toyota/Lexus are going to release some forced induction engines then theyll know that their reliability factor will be at stake if lots of ecus make it to the market, esp in todays market with the oncoming onslaught of cheaper Korean cars and german cars, toyotas reliability will need to remain a top priority

to add to wat Spwolf said, in any regards the "IS coupe" since its a coupe will at sold at a higher price point than the 4 door. and since bmw are introducing the next gen 3 series coupe as a 4 series then, as Spwolf, said they will be able to charge even more. So since this is a business and Lexus are in it to make money, then they too will follow suit and create a new segment and charge youven more for the coupe. And they know we will all gobble that ish up and buy a coupe

twinturbo i4? Makes no sense since it be 1) costly 2) inefficient and 3) ineffective vs. a single. Could you have misinterpreted him to mean twin-scroll turbo or dual forced injection (turbo+sc) instead?

I am sure that guy just meant it is turbocharged, everyone automatically say "twin turbo" because it sounds cooler.

Or most likely it is twin-scroll turbo, as they all are now.

That ragtop thing make no sense either, as the current IS-C is a folding hardtop, no one ever goes back to a cloth top. Even mid engine spider got folding hardtop now a days, ragtop only make sense if there is an engine in the way.

I sure hope this turbocharging rumor is true, that means Lexus is following the Europeans foot step, turbocharging everything, so someday there will be a twin turbo V8 for the LS and SC or LF-LC.

I'll wait until there is official news from Lexus. All these rumors and speculation are making my head hurt. Hopefully they will tell us more on the 27th

Tell that to the Audi A5/S5, 650i/M6, and Maserati convertibles

Don't hold your breath, the 3IS will only have the current carry over drivetrain initially, only during the mid cycle refresh, it might have some new engine, which means a few years from now.

That is because they haven't got a folding hardtop yet, none of them had a folding hardtop version before. No one goes back to a ragtop after having a folding hardtop, is like going back to the carburetor after having direct injection. Some day all convertible will be a folding hardtop, unless it is technically not possible due to not enough room. Even the top of the 991 Carrera convertible is a multip piece hard panel, it still got the cloth due to packaging reasons.

Everything I been reading is saying the LF-LC will use the same hybrid system as the LS 600h. If thats true what are y'all thoughts on it?

Yeah you're right, even the new GS is using the same drivetrain as the old model.

Is better then not having it at all.

But the current LS600h only makes 440 hp, the rumor is the LF-LC will have 500 hp. Is hard to add 60 hp from electric power alone, they sure are not putting in a bigger displacement engine, the only power adder left is boost.

They could add a 60 shots of NOS.............JK
