FRS is doing great things for Scion... xD, xB and tC sales are up a lot due to increased showroom traffic, brand up 76% overall and 50% for the year.

settling down a bit... still 50% more than A3, 2x more than 1 series, both have more engine options.

I think they will do a facelift next year and introduce CT300h.. that will bring it back a bit but dont expect miracles unless fuel goes up... it is #1 selling car in the class as it is.

^I am looking forward to the CT refresh. The sharper face will look great on that car and if they do come up with a 300h option, that would be awesome

You got the wrong Mercedes sheet from July, hence the lower YTD number.

If we look at Toyota sales.. they are back in full force.

What does that mean? It means that Toyota, again, sells great in USA because of the brand name and what it means. Since 2010 recalls that was a bit shaky.

Toyota currently cant build enough Corolla's and Rav4's for US market in factories... Corolla factory just got 3rd shift and they are not at full output yet. And those models are 6+ years old now, about to be replaced!

Best selling Toyota's - not just by numbers but because of lower than average stock, are their core models - Camry, Corolla, Rav4, Tacoma, Highlander... their pillars in USA.

No wonder it is their best September since 2007. Next one might get crazy with new Corolla and Rav4 in full force out, as well as Avalon.

Notes: BMW is pretty far in the lead, but I did not realize that Lexus was clearly outselling Mercedes. September 2012 Sales by Brand (August in parentheses)
BMW: 21,761 (16,835)
Lexus: 20,386 (24,237)
Mercedes: 19,311 (20,557)
Audi: 12,302 (11,524)
Notes: BMW is back on track after their inventory shenanigans bit them in the *** last month. Mercedes was also up over 1k units. Good month for Audi too. Lexus was down about 4k units over last month...looks like they are still trying to stabilize production and inventory with new and older products.

September Entry Level Luxury Sedan Sales (August in parentheses):
BMW 3 Series: 7,731 (6,208)
Lexus ES: 6,553 (7,557)
Mercedes C Class: 5,663 (6,519)
Audi A4: 3,035 (3,187)
Lexus IS: 2,248 (2,369)
Notes: 3 is back up in September and outsold the ES by a solid 1,200 units. C is bringing up the rear with the others well behind. It will be interesting to see how ES sales continue to do over the next few months.

September Midsize Luxury Sedan Sales (August in parentheses):
Lexus ES: 6,553 (7,557)
Mercedes E Class: 5,089 (4,515)
BMW 5 Series: 3,189 (1,688)
Audi A6: 2,065 (1,569)
Lexus GS: 1,454 (1,831)
Notes: E Class picked up a few units and the 5 series is back up after August, but numbers are still lower than they should be. A6 had a good month and the GS did not. Second month of ES and GS coexisting and both are down over August.

September Entry Level Luxury CUV Sales (August in parentheses):
Lexus RX: 7,046 (8,628)
BMW X3: 3,034 (2,829)
Mercedes GLK: 1,880 (2,775)
Audi Q5: 2,256 (2,007)
Notes: RX went down about 1,600 units - quite a tumble. I wonder if this has to do with inventories of the new model? GLK also took a 900 unit tumble, but the X3 and Q5 were consistent.

September Midsize Luxury CUV/SUV Sales (August in parentheses):
Lexus RX: 7,046 (8,628)
BMW X5: 3,850 (3,568)
Mercedes ML: 1,790 (2,243)
Lexus GX: 948 (1,071)
Audi Q7: 1,051 (951)
Notes: RX and ML dropped off considerably, the others are rather flat.

Best Selling Luxury Vehicle
BMW 3 Series: 68,352
Lexus RX: 67,048

You are right - my apologies. I did not realize that the OP had the July sales table. I have corrected it and the order is 1) Mercedes - 191k units 2) BMW - 186k units 3) Lexus - 170k units. Thanks!

Post Kia

Kia Motors America (KMA) is the fastest growing car company in the United States and the brand's unprecedented momentum reached new highs in September, achieving a record 3rd quarter and the 25th consecutive month of record sales, reaching 48,105 units, a 35.1-percent increase over the same period in 2011. September once again saw KMA's U.S.-built* vehicles take the top sales honors. The Optima midsize sedan sold 14,304 units and the Sorento CUV enjoyed sales of 10,066 vehicles. The Soul accounted for 9,467 units sold, bolstered by the recent launch of the "Bringing Down the House" advertising campaign featuring the music-loving Kia hamsters and the dance anthem "In My Mind" (Axwell remix).

Lending credibility to the company's significant sales increases, Kia Motors Corporation enters the exclusive list of the "Top 100 Best Global Brands," according to the 2012 study released today by Interbrand, the world's largest brand consultancy agency. Kia's remarkable increase in brand value is now estimated at $4.1 billion, which firmly sets the automaker at 87th on the list. This is a 50 percent increase from last year's estimated brand value and far exceeds the average automotive brand value growth rate of only 11 percent for the year.

"Kia's product-led transformation -- together with our successful marketing -- have elevated Kia's reputation beyond our bedrock commitment to value," said Byung Mo Ahn, group president and CEO of KMA and KMMG. "At Kia, we work to understand the needs and expectations of our customers and work to find new ways to enrich their lives, providing the Kia brand with powerful potential as more new products and technologies are set to arrive in the next 12 months."

Kia's Unprecedented Growth
Kia Motors is 1 of the world's fastest moving global automotive brands; from 2009-2011 Kia launched more new vehicles in the U.S. than any other automaker, and under the guidance of chief design officer Peter Schreyer earned a reputation as an industry leader in automotive styling. Kia Motors America's full line of fuel-efficient and fun-to-drive cars and CUVs has earned critical acclaim and dramatically increased consumer awareness, perception and consideration for the brand. In 2011, KMA recorded its 17th consecutive year of market share growth, thanks in part to the largest increase of any major brand in perceived quality [2] and the industry's highest brand loyalty ranking [3] . Kia's U.S.-based manufacturing facility in West Point, Georgia -- KMMG -- is responsible for the creation of more than 10,000 plant and supplier jobs and builds two of the company's best-selling vehicles in the U.S. -- the Sorento CUV and Optima midsize sedan*. Kia's value and technology-laden lineup also includes the Sportage compact CUV, Soul urban passenger vehicle, Optima Hybrid, Forte compact sedan, Forte 5-door compact hatchback, Forte Koup 2-door coupe, Rio and Rio 5-door sub-compacts and Sedona minivan.

Lightbulb Hyundai

Hyundai Motor America wrapped up the third quarter of 2012 setting multiple sales records including a record 60,025 sales for the month of September. Sales were up 15 percent for the month and up 10 percent for the first nine months of the year versus 2011.

"September was a very encouraging month for Hyundai as we avoided the traditional back-to-school sales decline and began to reap the benefits of a materially improved inventory situation on our core vehicle lines," said Dave Zuchowski, executive vice president of sales. "We're well positioned for a strong 4th quarter as sales of the newly launched Elantra GT, Elantra Coupe, the all-new Azera and all-new Santa Fe continued at a brisk pace. Our fourth quarter production plan is up nearly 20 percent on a year-over-year basis."

The all-new Azera and the Elantra family saw sales gains of a remarkable 1028 percent and 27 percent, respectively, over last September. The Tucson saw sales gains of 23 percent over the same period a year ago, and Veloster, the three-door coupe now available in both turbo and non-turbo models, continues to impress with a sales gain of 262 percent. Hyundai fleet sales and mix remained low at a nine percent mix for the month and year-to-date, among the lowest in the industry.
