Acura ZDX getting the axe after 2013 despite new updates
![](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2012/10/2013-acura-zdx-blur.jpg)
The Acura ZDX hasn't exactly lived a conventional existence, so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that its death announcement isn't going according to standard industry protocol, either. Parent company Honda has taken the unusual step of trumpeting a refreshed-for-2013 model while simultaneously announcing that this will be the model's last year. According to Acura, the model's cancellation comes as the brand "sharpens its focus on new models and core products" like the forthcoming RLX sedan.
The audaciously styled crossover has been, to be charitable, a very reluctant seller since its 2009 introduction, but for 2013, Acura is jazzing up its concept car for the street with new kit. The changes include a lightly reworked front shield grille along with new power folding side mirrors and new tech features including lane departure and forward collision warning systems.
We'd say that announcing the model's discontinuation at the same time one is presenting a freshened model could hurt sales, but we're not sure there's anyone paying attention. Last year, Acura managed to shift just 1,564 units of the ZDX, giving it the No. 4 spot on our Worst Sellers of 2011 list. Through September, Automotive News reports that only 642 examples have been sold in 2012, making it one of the rarest new cars on the market.
The 2013 ZDX is slated to go on sale on October 19 carrying an MSRP of $50,920 plus $895 in destination charges.

The week this car debuted, I made a post saying, "Welcome to the all new Acura ZDX, a car that will soon be discontinued." My, how time flies.
Again, I wonder if people get fired for such blatant car failures. If I released a huge new product in my business that severely failed, I'd get the ax. Are car company people immune to such consequences? It's got to cost the company a horrific amount of money to bring an all new car to market, only to have it gone soon after. Who is responsible for this and what is being done to prevent it from happening again? When mistakes happen, the idea is to track down what went wrong and rectify the troubled spot, so it can't repeat. The problem with Honda/Acura has been a stream of recent, big mistakes... so it appears no one cares about wasted money and learning lessons??? I just don't get how this can happen in such a big company that has/had the ability to do things right.

Well, that's what they get for building a Japanese Aztek. ![Stick Out Tongue](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Not only its goofy looks, but the classic droop-down roofline made rear-seat ingress/egress difficult for all but children and very small adults.

Honda can only get back to being the company they were/can be by admitting mistakes and making the needed corrections.
This de-ZDXing the product line is such a positive move.
I am permanently stumped at their refusal to create and market (they have that race car) a RWD platform.

I'll never forget seeing no one around it at the auto show here and then I literally could not get in the backseat b/c it had some dumbass shaped cutout. It's like they saw the BMW X6 and figured out a way to make it perform worse, get worse MPG, get less cargo room and make it uglier.
The Acura Aztek......
Crazy factoid. Acura's sales goal was
First year -6.000
2nd year -8,000
3rd year 12,000
I think they hit 3,500 tops or so and it plummeted every since.
