The 19/28 mpg numbers are for the "regular" A8. The S8 (tested here) is estimated to get around 15/24. Also, C&D estimates 0-60 in 4.0 seconds. All these figures seem more in line.

That is true 20 years ago in an AWD system from a $30k car. I remembered my friend called his BMW 325iX as a one wheel drive car.

You know the truth subconsciously, in 2012 on a $100k+ AWD performance car (S8, GTR, 911 Turbo), their extremely sophisticated AWD system absolutely double the forward traction compare to a 2WD car.

I have never seen a LFA dusting a GTR in acceleration at any speed, from Road & Track, and that was the 2012 model GTR with 530 hp, the 2013 545 hp version is even quicker.

i don't think so

gtr pulling away from lfa from the start

lexus rates it at 3.7s 0-62

Not to start a Jihad, but I've seen videos where LFA pulled on the GTR. Maybe the newer GTRs got a lot quicker since then, I'm not a big follower.

This is true even today for many cars that use traditional AWD systems. And in your friends case, his AWD BMW became one FRONT wheel drive car, which is worse than one REAR wheel drive car.

Just a few years ago most 100K performance cars were RWD. They are now starting to implement sophisticated AWD systems after Nissan blew them out of the water with the GTR. Even if this Audis AWD system is as good as the GTR, I just don't see the big heavy pig coming close to GTR's acceleration, unless its power output is severely underrated.

Nothing like an Audi S8. I really like the car, the first time I saw when it was in Ronin. Wikipedia saying the 0-62 time is 4.2 seconds. It is sad, that the S8 is underpowered compared to the RS6. One thing is, it be interesting to see someone get Audi, to contact Bugatti and have them build an engine for the S8

Now with video. Appears to make much more than "520hp" as well.

Torque vectoring solves this problem, and it absolutely works in a straight line as well as corners. Unfortunately it adds complexity and purists believe it takes away from driving experience.

I agree with you about the torque vectoring but I have never seen a LFA do 0-60 in 3.2 sec. The fastest I have seen the LFA 0-60 is 3.6 sec, most tests have it at 3.6-3.9 seconds, the GTR does 0-60 in the low 3 sec range and even under 3 seconds in several tests which makes it quicker then the LFA and S8, the S8 doing 0-60 in 3.5 seconds which is simply amazing considering it is a full size heavy luxury flagship. Wish it was better looking, they really screwed up the front on the new A8.

for huge power cars, awd is definitely the way to go. for light sports cars, rwd is great and fun.

i think they should do an lfa-2 with awd and dual clutch transmission.

The GTR might be faster 0-60 but doesn't the LFA have better top-end accleration? Once you're past 100mph, the LFA will pull on the GTR and leave it behind.
