Can we blame the current trend of 'Guppie Mouth' grills on Audi?

sure, but it looks good on most Audi's, and all Lexi (Imho), not so good here, although I suspect that in real life, it is down below the car and you wont notice it this much.

Audi's concept is a large grille that spans from the hood to the bottom of the lip. On the Avalon though there's a normally sized grille above the bumper and between the headlights, and then there's a oversized grille below whose shape just doesn't look coherent to the grille above. It looks absolutely nothing like Audi's idea.

Speaking of which, where do they plan on mounting the front license plate, I wonder?

Yes we can.

Remember when Audi came out with their current grill how controversial it was. It got a lot of not so favorable nicknames, like horse collar etc. Now it looks distinctive. Now everyone is trying out do the other guy for the most prominent grill.

i am just interested in how it looks from normal perspective... in the pic above, your "head" is at the level of headlights...

I guarantee it will look better from normal head level. Camera angles can greatly change the way things appear

I agree, the new Avalon is good looking, but changing the perception of the car and appealing to a wider demographic won't happen overnight. Think LaCrosse and last gen ES350, etc.

While the hybrid is new for the Avalon, the 6 speed 3.5 V6 is a carryover form the previous gen so power remains the same.

with Avalon being up to 150lbs lighter, do you think its needs more power? Besides, transmission has been updated, it gets rev matching and rest of the stuff from GS350.

Nope no more power needed IMO. I was replying to the post above mine that said it's more powerful than ever.

Also looks like they're going the Hyundai cheapie black carpet/floormats route. Hope not, looks terrible and shows every speck of lint and dirt, plus anything falling on floor is gone forever until a flashlight is used to find it. Bleh.
