You really love your LS460 THAT much to do all that? Just buy an AMG S63, Alpina B7, Audi S8 or Jaguar XJ SuperSport?

i'm sure you're the target customer for this car which will cost over $100k.

Guess what I was SITTING inside yesterday in Essen lads ? Yup, the one and only TMG TS-650.
I went to Essen specifically to see it and I was not disappointed.

I had a JDM twin turbo Toyota/Lexus Aristo for 5 years and A Twin Turbo Toyota/Lexus Soarer too Those car took more abuse than a *** (***insert wildly offensive simile here) and came back ready for more. I'm in a V8 SC430 now, and enjoying that a lot too now. I feel I'm well qualified to comment on this new concept car and brand.

Thanks to Jon Forker for the pics on SSI, the Irish Supra Specialists site. They are much better than my Nokia Fisher Price ones.

SSI site, hi Marty !: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...5487342&type=1

It starts slow and ends on a high:

As you can see from the photos of the engine bay, they could have had a can of baked beans with a toy seaside windmill as the turbos and we wouldn't have known any different. They had no spec sheet to hand out, no brochure, nothing, just the car. The blanking of the exhaust manifolds in the engine bay might have been to hide some prtototype level engineering or turbochargers not from the Toyota stable, but I was irrationally annoyed at not to be able to see them.
The guy I was talking on the stand as he was the only person to make a good effort to engage with the public was Norbert Schafer of TMG Cologne. He is the guy on the left in the photo. His e-mail is norbert.schaefer@toyota-motorsport.com. His name between the German spelling and the email spelling is different, because I have no umlaut for the "a" in his name on his business card name. His mobile phone number is +49 152 22 960 357. Ring him and tell him that you want him to build the car, because I got the feling, I'm drawing my own conclusions here, the feeling that unless he can go to Toyota corporate with a big response from us guys, that the TMG TS-650 may remain an orphan, along with the immediate aspirations for the TMG brand..

Norbert also wants us to "like" and chat about the TMG TS-650 on the Facebook page for TMG, so please do right now. Thank you.
TMG facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/ToyotaMotorsport?fref=ts

My open letter to TMG in Cologne.

Thanks for our two friendly conversations yesterday about the TMG TS-650 we had Norbert Schaeffer. I was the guy that had this cars father, the JDM Aristo twin turbo and older JDM twin turbo Soarer, and currently has an Europe spec Lexus SC430, remember ?
Anyway as you requested, I'm doing my little bit to spread word of this great car, and hope you get the support from the bosses to say to them that this is the moment that TMG has emerged as a real alternative into the world of premium automotive brands like Brabus etc for those of us who wish to have a 650 bhp car that is going to be miles more reliable than the competition, judging by all the times you have won the hyper critical JD Power surveys and by my own personal experience.
As you said the car has full access to TMG breeding from your F1 and Racecar programs and people. TMG equals something more than just a Lexus I feel.

I personally feel vindicated, that my long term enthusiasm and support for Lexus products and the high powered JDM premium Toyota's has been finally acknowledged by you guys, and you are now rewarding us with this car, which means we don't have to buy a Brabus or a BMW M series or a that frankly ugly 4 seater Porsche thing to experience this level power reliably. The TMG TS-650 has filled a gaping hole in the product range with such authority that it is now inconceivable that this car would remain an orphan. Start making them now lads, the demand is there.

That much is clear.
THANK YOU!! Will be writing!!!

I was at the show in germany when i saw this car and couldn't believe it....I think Toyota/Lexus needs to bring this show stopper to the stage to compete against it's german rivals and american powerhouses
Awesome feedback. Agreed, build it!

Very unique way of modeling the exhaust pipes. Looks sort of like the LFA pipes except this Lexus has 4, the LFA has 3.

Lexus Continues Development of LS650 TMG

While Lexus continues to push its F-Sport line of performance products and accessories a skunk works project by a team of German engineers is continuing to refine what they believe is a more fitting rival for the Ms and AMGs of the world.

First unveiled in 2012, Toyota Motorsports Germany (TMG) has just revealed an updated version of what it calls the LS650 TMG – positioning the European racing division as the in-house tuner of choice for the Lexus brand.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged version of the factory 5.0-liter V8 engine, power has been downgraded from the original, lofty number of 800 hp to a more realistic, though still AMG-rivaling 650 hp.

The car itself is a test bed to showcase the capabilities of the TMG team and the lessons learned in Formula 1 says Alastair Moffitt of Toyota Motorsport Germany, commenting on the official Lexus UK blog that, “we really wanted to create a Formula 1 car combined with a limousine.”

Moffit admits that there are no immediate plans for the TMG car to make it to production, though this current state of tune was performed with that in mind, commenting that, his team, “had to look to road application.” In particular, he comments that this third generation of the car was designed with Euro5 emissions in mind, as well as fuel economy and practicality, “so that we can, at least in concept, design a car that can be built and built again.”

“We would like to think that some of the areas we’ve shown on this car will lead into future projects for us at TMG,” he says, commenting that the goal with this project would be to have Lexus expand it into at least a small series of production cars.

If nothing else, Moffit hopes TMG’s efforts can lead to further development of Lexus’ performance credentials.

Dont remember ever hearing that this had 800+ hp but whatever. Nice to know that it is a project that they have not given up on.

Default Lexus LS TMG 650 hits the track!

http://blog.lexus.co.uk/2013/08/lexu...its-the-track/

“We wanted a showcase for the Formula 1 technologies we’d developed. We thought it would be fun to put them in a road car base.”*So says Toyota Motorsport Germany’s*Alastair Moffitt, describing the rational behind building the Lexus LS based TMG 650.First revealed at the Essen Motor Show in 2012, the TMG 650 is the car that many have labelled as Lexus’ answer to Mercedes AMG.*Based on a 2010*Lexus LS, the concept car shows off TMG’s engineering skills, and pushes*the limits of performance and imagination.Under the bonnet, there’s a twin turbo 5.0-litre Lexus V8 engine connected to an eight-speed high-torque gearbox. Maximum power output is an incredible 650hp while top speed is 198mph – but if you think that’s outandlish, it’s worth bearing in mind that the car has been “refined” in recent months. In the early days, says Moffitt, it was making 800bhp…

"You could, of course, take a very light car but that’s too close to what we were doing before, in terms of prototyping and small formula cars, so we preferred to take a large Lexus, bring our Formula 1 knowledge and experience, using the processes and facilities we have available to us back at TMG in Cologne, to put that into practice to show what you can really do with a car like this.” Moffitt continued.“[We wanted to show] how you can refine the handling, you can refine the performance, you can deliver more speed, you can take away weight, so this is a showcase for all of those technologies.“It’s a sweetshop for engineers in a way because you have so many different areas for development. We’ve been optimising every area that we could. That doesn’t mean that this car will be this shape on the road, it’s a laboratory car that shows the different aspects that you can work on.“We started on this car in 2010. This is the phase 3 car. The phase 1 car started in 2010, that was extremely ambitious, we really wanted to create a formula 1 car combined with a limousine so we had many ideas with all the technology, we’re looking at 800BHP so it was a very serious bit of kit.

“We then took what we learned from that, we refined it in the areas we could, but crucially we had to look to road application. So you start to look towards Euro5 emissions, you need to think about fuel efficiency, and it needs to be practical so that we can, at least in concept, design a car that can be built and built again.“At the moment there are no plans to put this car into any kind of production. We would like to think that some of the areas we’ve shown on this car will lead into future projects for us at TMG.“We believe you can be very strong in developing prototype examples which could then be taken by the Toyota or Lexus group and expanded into small series production cars. So, we hope this is an exciting time, we want to be more involved in the road car side of things, it’s an interesting and very challenging industry so we’d like to bring something to the brand.”

I think this is something Lexus needs. They have a lot of buyers with a lot of money, and nothing offered to them to spend it on unless they go over to the MB dealership.

I agree. An S63/65 competitor would do good for the brands image of sportiness. And there is definitely a market for these cars as there are Lexus customers looking to spend over 100K on a car.

They really need to build this, slap it in the new updated body and call it a day. I don't think they truly understand. MPLexus and I just talked about how Audi updated the engines in the A8 and it was already arguably class leading.

They are going to have to take some chances and build and build fast. The German dominance is growing so fast its not even funny.

Sorry, I opened a separate thread with the story on this by Lexus's UK Blog, perhaps a mod could merge the two?

The story basically says there is no plans for production of this but it appears it could be produced now if allowed.

+1000000000

Just a few days ago the S65 AMG was seen testing hard at the 'Ring. It runs so fast (0-60 in 3.6 secs estimated), corners so flat, and yet soaks up the bumps so well, it's absolutely surreal. Lexus needs to stop being so timid with the pace they develop new high-end models and step up to the big game. Green-light the LS650 TMG already!!
