I correct a bunch of txt from the article including them saying this is the 3rd gen and the 3.5L debuted in 2007. I thought I corrected all of it, but must have missed one

It's a Lexus, which means it needs to be seen in person. There are a lot of little details in the design that you notice walking up to the car that don't translate in polished static photos.

The owner of the Toyota dealership in my town has a Liquid Platinum F-Sport and one of his sales drones was filling it up at the local gas station at dusk last night and the light was accenting all the body lines on the side profile wonderfully. The GS is a beautiful car.

They also said the 2GS was introduced in 1998. Didn't that start production in early August of 1997, so why are they getting those things wrong? It's sad when journalists fail to be attentive nowadays and make frequent mistakes. Being a grammar ****, as a kid I remember when never seeing a typo or an error in a car magazine. Today it's the opposite and of course, less content and more filler.

I always wondered though, did the Lexus engineers really do the right choice by putting a 6 speed? I mean they said it would be better than putting an 8 speed, but is that really true? Or are they just holding up the 8 speed for the next update maybe?
The reason i say this is because the 3IS is supposed to get an 8 speed on some versions, so it would make sense to have an 8 speed on the GS as well.
I really dont understand why people need 8 speeds do you want it to be like an IS F...Imagine you have to paddle it up and down too many clicks. LFA only got 6. Six speeds is perfect!. They just need to make it faster with 6speeds.

Good to know and answers one of the questions I have about the car. Do you know if the GS F-Sport also allows true manual shifting and not just gear limiting?

Either 8 or 6 gears are fine with me. Rev matching, true manual control, torque lock (in all but first) and fast shifting (100 milliseconds) (as with the IS-F) are of more interest to me.

Thanks.

While in D, if you use the paddle shifters they act as gear limiters. Perfect for going down grades. Otherwise in sport, it will stay in whatever gear your in unless you say come to a complete stop it drops you back to 1st if you hadn't done so

You need to set the drivetrain to manual mode and turn the control **** to Sport S+ settings before you get "true manual shifting."

I saw it months ago; I'm talking summer time. I recently sat in it, played with all the buttons and features, and was offered a test drive. It just did not appeal to me. I was hoping that it would look better in person, but IMO, it just didn't. I did not drive it though as we were at the dealer to look at the RX.

Maybe in time it will grow on me, time will tell.

Add me as another who doesn't care for the front end styling. There's nothing classy, graceful, or sexy about it. It's just plain strange.

8 speed is marketing mandatory... i think it is a lot more needed in my country where we drive 100 Mph on highway than in US, but that doesnt matter... everyone has it and so you have to have it.

So you can see better 1/4 maybe... and between 0-130 mph for sure.. or better 50-75, 80-120... but not 0-60.
Well, lets look at the transmission ratios (axle included) and max gear speeds of IS-F and GS350:

---- IS-F mph GS350 mph
1st 13.50 39 12.74 41
2nd 8.00 66 7.38 71
3rd 5.47 96 5.07 103
4th 4.30 122 3.62 142
5th 3.62 146 2.61 142
6th 2.94 170 2.14 142
7th 2.42 170
8th 2.01 170

1st and 2nd are definitely shorter on the 8-speed, even though 62 mph still arrives on 2nd gear.

So, assuming the GS350 had the IS-F 8-speed and axle, the torque on wheels will have an increase of 6.0% in 1st gear and 8.4% on 2nd. This would lead to at least 6% better 0-60 time, which will translate into 0-60 time of 5.4 sec instead of 5.7.

And then they can further improve that by putting a 6.5% shorter ratio axle on the GS until they match the ratios of the 8-th gear to the existing 6th gear to keep the same fuel economy... And that would bring 0-60 to 5.2 s easily.

The chassis of the vehicle has been drastically improved over the previous model...............to the point that this 4GS NEEDS a V8 ENGINE!!!

I hope to see a UR series engine in the 4GS life cycle soon =)
