best time to buy a vehicle during its life cycle.
Most people know its best to avoid the first year models of cars.
How ever i have also herd people say if you ever think of buying a car from a certain generation, its best to choose the models that were made towards the middle of the production run, and not the end as some manufacturer tend to take the cheap route and there is cost cutting involved in the last years of a cars production run before they come out with the next generation. Does this apply to Toyota/Lexus vehicles? Did they ever do that to any of there vehicles?

I feel the best time to buy is the midcycle refresh year.

Lexus cars are the only ones I'd ever consider buying a first year model of.
I think good deals can be had just prior to refreshes as dealers clear out inventory, and by that time you can have some idea of what reliability is like. For those super concerned with reliability, I'd go even further and wait until after refreshes but before a completely new model is released.

While some makers cost-cut the last couple of years of production, I noticed some automakers add things on. My 2010 BMW E60 was the only year to get the high-res hard drive based Nav system that's in the F10. The last of the E60's got F10 mirrors too.

My sister just bought a 2010 CPO IS this year, there is a horrible rattle by the push button start. Plus it rattles bad over any bump and rattles come from all over. Like I said earlier, there is no hard and fast rule in my mind.
