Default Loaner car damage.

So last night someone broke the rear passenger side window on my ES loaner. How does this get handled with insurance and has anyone ever had a similar experience?

Never had a similar experience, but I would call the dealer asap and ask them how they want to handle it.

THey told me to bring my insurance card and the police case report # with me and they'd put me in touch with one of the managers.

At our Service Department, the customer has the option to pay for it out of pocket(so your rates don't go up I would assume), or have their insurance company pay for it.

+1 ^^^^^

Isn't it funny that if the Dealer damages your car, it goes on your Insurance and not theirs.

It's hard for me to pay out of pocket since it wasn't my fault. So you're saying they will have THEIR insurance cover the repair and my rates will go up?

Since you weren't involved in an at-fault accident, I don't see your rates going up just for a broken window..

It's going to be your insurance that will have to pay for it. Their insurance only covers it if it happens on their time, for instance, if it gets stolen or vandalized under their own care. Usually the agreement is that when a customer gets a loaner car, they or their insurance company is responsible for any damages to it, at least that's what the process is here.

Like Jsmacks says, it's not your fault that that someone else broke your window, so hopefully your insurance rate shouldn't go up.

So then it's looking like I will have to pay my deductible huh?

Yes. Better than you paying the whole thing . I'm guessing the cost to replace the broken window is around $700-$800 for parts, labor, and to clean out the glass.

Yeah, it will probably be subject to your insurance deductible for comprehensive damage or out of your own pocket, but your rates shouldn't go up. Rates don't usually go up because of a comprehensive claim (as long as you don't cause the damage i'm sure...lol)

That sucks man, but yes your going to have to fish out the deductible. If your deductible is higher than the repairs just pay cash.

I had an ES loaner a few years ago and some 18 wheeler decided to leave a chunk of tire in the road....I hit it and it destroyed one headlight. Insurance would not cover it and I just paid out of pocket for the headlight.

They wouldn't cover it at all? Did you have comprehensive insurance? Just curious why they didn't let you claim it...?
