I honestly can't believe they complicate the beak with those headlights...very safe redesign, will appeal to current Honda crowd and nothing else. Rear looks big maybe for more rear 3rd row room.

That rear D pillar looks just like the RX

They're going to offer FWD models for the first time.

The 3.5-liter i-VTEC SOHC V6 is promised to improve performance and fuel economy, but exact horsepower and torque numbers have not been released. The same engine is used in the Acura TL, where it delivers 280 hp and 254 lb-ft.

I hope the interior appointments are nice, because I don't really like the exterior. I think the 2007-9 pre beak MDX was the best looking

I have to admit, the newer versions of the shield grille is getting better. Still not great, but better.

It looks nice enough, and it will sell well.

Don't try to act like Lexus is any better. They're all "bland" SUVs, and that's why they sell.

What did you expect? A swoopy SUV with small windows and creases everywhere?

"They didn't even try to change the shape" WHAT?

HOW MANY SHAPES can an SUV come in without decreasing its practicality and usefulness???

Just step back and take a breath, and come back down to earth for a minute.

Mercedes and BMW have not changed the shape of the x5 and M either.

I'm not hating on Acura, in fact, I encourage my parents to get the new MDX. It's just from the design stand point, there is nothing special in this new model. Acura will sell a ton of MDX regardless of the styling, but if they take more effort to design the MDX, it will be more than just "nice enough". By basic shape, I mean "the basic line"and shape of the front and rear. Shield grill is still bland, front and rear light still keep the same basic shape. The only things changed are the window shape and additional line to the rear fender. A pillar moves forward a bit, and it's a little longer, so 3rd row will have a few extra inches, what kind of decreasing practicality and usefulness are you talking about?

P.S. SUVs from BMW, MB (except G wagon) and Audi are bland. Lexus GX is weird but not bland, and LX is not bland.

Frumpy, homely, deliberate new styling. Current model is more lithe and athletic.

I am on this forum as we have just purchased an ES300h for my wife, but I am on my third MDX. I used to drive GMC Yukons but in 2005 I wanted something slightly smaller with better gas mileage so I bought a used 2001 MDX to try it out. I liked it and then found a low mileage 2005 that I drove for five years and then got a 2011 MDX Advance. These are just solid vehicles and serve my needs well. The Advance has all the bells and whistles including two driving modes, and I enjoy the Sport mode on back roads. The one thing of disappointment is that the gas mileage of the 2011 is worse than the two previous models I have owned. As for the new model, I personally like it but not enough to run out and trade.

As for cino's comments above, we are probably the age of his parents, which is also why we chose the ES300h over the Infinity M. As my wife's brother works for Nissan, we could have purchased an M35 for about the same price as the 300h. The M was much more fun to drive (for me), but the 300h better suited our current needs.

That's like saying I can't believe Lexus complicated their predator grille with the 3IS's headlights. To the MDX's defense, if this thing only appeals to the Honda crowd and no one else then it will sell like hotcakes. The current gen has been selling great with just mild updates during its lifetime.

I completely agree. These SUVs need to be bland to sell. Mercedes' ML has only gotten more bland and so has the competition. This is one vehicle Acura does right.
