The car has an official EPA rating of 25 miles per gallon in the city and 33 on the highway, though, which likely underestimates how it will perform in the real world.

More advanced? The only "advanced" bit of the new 4-cylinder hybrid powertrain is direct injection, which the IS250 has too. The "5k difference" in Europe most likely comes from a much better equipped standard IS300h over a stripped IS250, which doesn't have to be the case in the US. Also, I don't know why you keep on repeating the 0-60 issue when it's pretty much proven that hybrid buyers don't care about power, not to mention that if the estimates from Autocar are even remotely correct, it will do 0-60 in 7 seconds or less, a very plausible time given the 240hp figure you raved about so much.
I doubt change in 5k is due to options, because in Europe we get base levels with every engine... If ES300h is $1750 more expensive than ES350, then why wouldnt IS300h be at least $2k more expensive than IS350? And how much more expensive will it be than IS250? :-).

if it is going to have 240hp and get 40+ MPG, it is a lot more advanced than just D4S. Direct injection to Camry Hybrid would only add 15hp. Articles mention new transmissions, which probably has 2 speeds like in GS450h.

Again, most hybrid buyers pay a premium to feel good about saving fuel, not to make financial sense or to gain performance. As long as a hybrid model saves enough fuel, it will sell. Lexus simply dropped the ball here and forgot why people buy hybrids.
