Autocar compares new Maserati Quattroporte to Jaguar XJ
Autocar's Steve Sutcliffe took the 2014 Maserati Quattroporte on a spin along snowy mountain roads to test it for a specific brief: as a limousine for the chauffeured class. It's sporting credentials are impressive: Twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8, 532 horsepower, 475 pound-feet of torque in casual circumstances that rises to 532 lb-ft in overboost, a 0-to-60 mile-per-hour sprint of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 191 mph.
However, citing Maserati's desire to not just increase its sales to 50,000-per-annum by 2015, but to sell many more of its cars in China, Sutcliffe wanted to find out if the livery side of the Quattroporte could match its sport sedan side. So after taking the pilot's seat and trying out the sport settings, Sutcliffe hops in back to test out the CEO's seat.
Then he compares the Quattroporte against the long-wheelbase Jaguar XJ with its supercharged V8, a sedan that's 15,000 pounds less expensive than the Maserati. It doesn't take long for him to find that one of them is a clear winner when it comes to transporting VIPs

really surprised than UK press thinks Jaguar is better... lol.
When those Jags are tested in German mags, they are found not to be able to hold candle to anything German for instance.

Haha agreed.
I know Maserati offers other wheel choices for the new Quattroporte..........but that design is just retarded imo.
Of course, Jaguar as well are just as guilty as this as well with the Amirante wheel design.
And of course, Lexus also has its ugliest wheel design that it has ever made:
Either way, no one here on ClubLexus would choose such retarded wheel designs (FROM ANY CAR MANUFACTURER) that's for sure......
----------
Anyways:
I too would slightly prefer the XJL Supersport over the new Quattroporte =)

Sorry, those Maserati wheels are worse than anything else I have seen on any car in recent time. I liked the SC wheels and I like the multispoke on the new GS as well. The Maserati ones are just gross.
I watched the video and hate to say it, but the design of this Quat is pretty bland and unimpressive from what I can tell. If that car had a Chevrolet or Toyota emblem, we'd be thrashing it for being bland and unimaginative, which....it is. This car has no street presence. I'd take an XJ, LS, S, 7, A8 over this any day. Interior looks beautiful though, and of course the engines are amazing. Too bad that they bombed the exterior though (IMO).

I will argue in favor of the wheels.
By design, there are two reasons why it works:
1) There is a "hidden trident" with each spoke. Note that from one center spoke, three smaller spokes protrude above it; the mini-spokes are shared with each trident side by side.
2) The size of the mini-spokes complement the shape and size of the lateral engine vents.
Just speaking with an editorial eye.

It's quite nifty I'll admit...........but design-wise, I would still avoid those kinds of wheels (along with the Jaguar and Lexus pizza wheels as well as the tuning fork eyesores that are seen on some 4GS vehicles).
As another CL forumer once said, it's like attending a formal wedding banquet wearing a tuxedo suit and necktie..................yet wears boxer shorts and beach slippers down below
