Thanks, Lexus.....a wise color choice.

I've always felt that the Matador Red Mica color used on some Lexus models was beautiful. In fact, I bought my own Buick Verano in an extra-cost shade (Crystal Red Metallic Pearl) that is virtually identical to the Matador Red in hue/color and sparkle. Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, to their credit, also has an extra-cost color called Inferno Red (sometimes refered to by other names), which, like on Buicks and some other GM cars, is an almost exact copy of the Lexus Matador Red (though you guys know from my auto-reviews that I don't think that most regular production paint jobs merit an extra-charge).
Anyhow, several times, in the past, especially at the D.C. auto show, I've suggested the Matador Red for the LS, since most of the LS paint jobs are either the nice-looking White Starfire Pearl (a color I've also always liked) or something super-dull that looked more at home in a mortuary. More than once, the Lexus reps replied by saying that they felt that the Matador Red was probably too sporty a color for the conservative LS, and that it woudn't sell. (I assume that's why the LS doesn't get the Solar Yellow my old IS300 had, or the stunning Ultrasonic Blue of the IS-F).
This year, I notice that Lexus has adopted the Matador Red to the LS, even on the base-model 460. Wise choice, IMO.
Now, about that Amythist............we're still waiting.

I am disappointed the new GS is NOT available in MRM ... the new red is called "Riviera Red". Not sure which exact red will be available on the new 3rd gen IS

According to Lexus
The GS 350 will feature three colors that are new to the Lexus color palette: Riviera Red, Meteor Blue Metallic and Liquid Platinum. Vehicles in Riviera Red will benefit from glass flakes incorporated into the coating that adds a high level of brilliance to the paint. Lexus engineers developed a new advanced coating process for Liquid Platinum exteriors. The GS 350 will be the first Lexus to adopt this new coating technology. Vehicles with the Liquid Platinum exterior will appear more radiant as an additional metallic texture gives both strong shading and defined, sharp highlights. This metallic effect makes subtle and defined bodylines more noticeable and the surface appear finely polished.

Actually, IMO, a pretty nice color......I like it, though many traditional Lexus buyers might find it a little too pastel for their tastes.
Two other classy Lexus production colors outside of the Matador Red, IMO, are the Sienna Brown and the Daybreak Yellow. Both are used on the CT200h. The yellow is just vivid enough not to be a typical funeral-home color, but not the wild, in-your-face Chrome Yellow used on some sports cars. The brown, despite the somewhat dull shade itself, manages, IMO, to still be classy. And I understand that demand for the CT is that color has been strong.

I didn't like this yellow color until I had a CT200h sport in this color as a loner for 2 weeks. There is a green hue in the paint that makes it looks really good in some light conditions. It looks like a concept car color and not a normal boring gold color. I really like it!
