Lexus LFA & Acura NSX – Two Decades of Engineering Excellence
#31
Electric hybrid drive is just like power windows, fuel injection, distributorless ignition, electric power steering............etc, it will eventually becomes standard equipment on all cars.
With the rate it is going now? I think 10~15 years, all Toyota/Lexus will be hybrid. The Prius today is pretty much tomorrow's Corolla, the hybrid part won't be optional.
Basically electric propulsion is slowly phasing out the internal combustion engine. I am guessing maybe 30 years from now, all economy commuter will be full electric like the Leaf. You can only buy an internal combustion engine from an exotic sports car from Ferrari/Lambo/Bugatti..........and even those will be half electric.
All my estimate is very conservative, my feeling is it will happen sooner then that, it all depends on the progress of the battery technologies. Lexus in Europe is already Hybrid only today.
In my opinion the efficiency of the internal combustion engine is pretty much maxed out. So how do we increase efficiency and reduce emission? Add in more and more electric power and subtract gas power. Very simple.
