Default Spy Shots: 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante

2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante poses prettily in the snow

We've seen the upcoming Aston Martin Vanquish Volante in spy photography before, but the car has never been shot while sitting so cooperatively still as it does for this latest set of images.

Most of the bulky camouflage has been removed from the car's flanks in these images too, with masking really only apparent on the rear fascia of the supercar, and snow obscuring the valences, of course. All in, it's another very cautious update to the signature Aston styling, albeit one the keeps the car among the most sexy convertibles on the planet.

Expect that the Vanquish Volante will come to town with Aston's 6.0-liter V12 engine under the hood, probably making something like 565 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque, if earlier leaked reports are to be believed.

2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante: This Is It

You like the Aston Martin Vanquish, but you hate having a roof over your head. You're in luck. Aston has a solution for you. Meet the Vanquish Volante.

So what do you get for your hard earned monies? Under the hood it's all Vanquish Coupe, which means 565 horsepower V12 attached to a six speed automatic running power out to the rear wheels.

On the outside, you have that same Vanquish look. But wait, it's missing a key structural element. It's something that we normally refer to as a "roof." In the case of the Vanquish, Aston Martin eschewed a fancy aluminum folding roof for a good old fashioned folding cloth one.

The top can go down at speeds up to 30 MPH and folds in just 14 seconds.

A folding soft top does mean that the Vanquish loses its coupe profile, which does make it appear a little weird out back. The particular car they photographed also might not have been the number one color combo for me, it almost appears like a tuner version of a Vanquish.

But the big plus is that without a roof, the Volante will let you constantly hear the best part of an Aston: That V12 bellow.

The Vanquish Volante will go on sale early next year, and it isn't cheap. Starting price for the V12 monster is $297,995. And even at that price, I bet they sell every one they get and more. Call now, operators are standing by.

The rear is very Boxster esque, but I like it. Not really a fan of the convertible versions, but I think that is mighty fine.

I like it.

The rear end throws me off a bit. It's bulbous, whereas the nose is flat in the front. That spoiler seems off.

Maybe it's the rear "seat" space.

I think the Vantage has better proportions.

For the first time with an Aston model, I agree.
The new Vanquish coupe's exterior design is a step backwards from the DB9/DBS coupe it replaces to me ...
