Default Owner Takes Delivery of Red-Striped Ferrari LaFerrari in California [w/Video]

When one is willing to pay more than $2 million for a LaFerrari, it goes without saying that Ferrari will build the car to the owner’s exact specifications. In this case, a customer from Southern California wanted his LaFerrari to sport a red “heritage” stripe on top of the car’s gloss black paint.

The stripe goes from one wheel arch to the other across the bonnet, and I have to say I still can’t decide whether I like it or not. Other exterior styling changes include the grey roof and matte silver five-spoke alloy wheels with yellow center caps.

Inside, the bespoke LaFerrari gets a two-tone brown leather upholstery for the seats, with light brown leather also adorning the dashboard, steering wheel and door handles. So, what’s your verdict on the red stripe? Cool on not cool?

I never understand why the stripe across the hood is cool, I guess someone did it on the 250 GTO a very long time ago and people followed and do the same thing ever since.................

Jorge Lorenzo paid Ferrari a visit in Maranello. The two-time MotoGP World Champion, winner of 54 championship races (33 in MotoGP, 17 in the 250 class and 4 in the 125s), was keen to see the range of cars. He spent a long time on the production line where the Maranello marque's hybrid LaFerrari is built, a car that perfectly encapsulates the marque’s design, technology and innovation.

One thing is certain: Sebastian Vettel had some serious fun behind the wheel of the FXX K at Fiorano. The look on his face and his delighted exclamations (“Mamma mia! It goes like a rocket!”) in this video say it all.

Default Ferrari LaFerrari Spider gets rendered

Ferrari has been tight-lipped about the possibility of a LaFerrari Spider but that hasn't stopped renowned "automotive manipulator" Theophilus Chin from creating a rendering of what the car could look like.

Looking undeniably attractive, the image shows a slightly revised model that would feature a 6.3-liter V12 engine and an electric motor which would enable the car to produce a combined maximum output of 963 PS (708 kW). It remains unclear how the loss of the roof would effect the LaFerrari's performance but the standard model accelerates from 0-100 km/h in less than three seconds and has a top speed in excess of 350 km/h (217 mph).

While Ferrari hasn't had much to say about the LaFerrari Spider, previous reports have indicated it could be introduced later this year with conventional doors and a removable roof that consists of two panels.

Production is expected to be extremely limited with estimates ranging from 10-50 units. The pricing is also a mystery but should fall somewhere in the $2-4 (€1.7-3.5) million range.

Default Is Ferrari recalling all 499 LaFerrari units due to fire risk?

Could be gas tank related

Dutch media is reporting Ferrari has decided to recall all 499 units of the LaFerrari due to a possible fire risk issue.

Modern Ferrari models unfortunately have a long history of catching fire and it seems the LaFerrari is prone to suffer the same fate if we were to believe a report issued by AutoBlog.nl. They say all 499 units are now being recalled because there’s a risk of fire, but details are murky at this point.

However, the prancing horse is indeed asking LaFerrari owners to bring their cars in for some "adjustments" to the fuel tank. Ferrari is not willing to call this procedure a recall, but the attached image from a Ferrari dealer in Germany indicates this is more than just a minor repair as the car's rear end has been dismantled so the problems seem to be quite heavy.

[update]
Ferrari told Autocar all units will get a "fuel tank upgrade" which will take about eight hours per car to complete. They aren't treating this as an official recall and owners shouldn't worry because apparently there aren't any fire risks.

Default On-board video with LaFerrari on a damp Spa-Francorchamps

Running on warn out tires

A LaFerrari driver decided to do an on-board video while tackling a damp Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.

According to the video description, the LaFerrari was equipped with worn out semi-slick tires so traction wasn't that great especially since the track was a bit wet. The driver also had to tackle some moderate traffic, but managed to put the hybrid supercar through its paces despite the unfavorable conditions.

We remind you Ferrari recently asked all 499 owners to bring their supercars to an authorized repair shop for a "fuel tank upgrade". The prancing horse says this isn't a recall procedure since there aren't any fire risks, but the new fuel tank is necessary and it will take eight hours to replace the old one.

Default Over 1,600HP Worth of Ferrari V12 Power Takes To The 'Ring

While there's still no word on how fast the 950 HP Ferrari LaFerrari is lapping the Nurburgring, we can still enjoy watching it kick out its rear end, together with his 599 GTO sibling.

Thanks to some patient work from 'Ring car spotters, we get to see both the LaFerrari and the 599 GTO take to the track in what look like warm up laps - or just laps where the goal isn't to be as fast and efficient as possible.

Drifting around a corner won't get you to your destination any quicker, but it'll sure look good, not to mention sound great, which is what you get when you bring a couple of V12 units to the woods.

What dawned on us is how brutal the LaFerrari accelerates once it puts its power down as it exists the corner. Even after the slide, as soon as the tires bite down, the car just darts forward as if Captain Picard just told it to "Make it so".

Of course, at 661 HP, the 599 GTO is no slouch, especially on the track where it also weighs almost 100kg (220 lbs) less than the standard GTB.

Compared to the LaFerrari, the 599 GTO is about 4 seconds slower around the Fiorano test circuit, but just 1 second off the pace of the F12 Berlinetta - which has 730 HP.

Seeing four Ferraris all together at Fiorano was an unforgettable and very moving experience made all the more special by the fact that they were driven, one after the other, by the man that test-drove them on that same track throughout their development.

We’re talking, of course, about the F40, the F50, the Enzo and LaFerrari, the milestone cars in Ferrari’s technological evolution over the last three decades, and the great Dario Benuzzi, himself a fixture at Maranello since 1969. The legendary Ferrari test-driver drove each one of the cars in order, reliving the emotions of a lifetime career with the Prancing Horse in a kind of unique technological time-lapse sequence.
