Just a week after teasing us with the first image of the car, and mere hours before revealing it to the public at the New York Auto Show, Jaguar has pulled the wraps off of its 2014 XJR super sedan.
The British automaker has confirmed that the XJR will be kicking out a full 550-horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque from its supercharged 5.0-liter V8, affording the sedan a 0-60 mile per hour sprint of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 174 miles per hour. A ZF eight-speed automatic transmission will still allow for respectable fuel economy, as Jag estimates ratings of 15 miles per gallon city and 23 highway.
Newly tuned dampers and stiffer spring rates, along with an electronically controlled differential should ensure that the massive power of the engine isn't wasted in transition to the road. Jaguar has also tweaked steering software and hydraulics, with the goal of increased road feel, response and overall feedback. 20-inch signature wheels carry wide Pirelli rubber (265-section up front, 295 in back) to keep the XJR planted.
Visually, the unique wheels, grille badges, sills and a discrete trunklid spoiler all call out the newest and most fearsome member of the XJ line. Inside, R badges on the seatbacks and elsewhere, as well as some unique seating, trim and stitching options, mark out the XJR. All in, the standard wheelbase XJR will carry an MSRP of $116,000, with $119,000 asked of the long-wheelbase model.

This is simply beyond epic. Jaguar is definitely on a roll by showing something that possesses premium performance with a level of dynamism that only a few competitors can ever meet or exceed.
An automotive piece-de-resistance that literally portrays sophistication and innovation mixed with strong aggression and emotion. A tour-de-force that transforms into something that moves and inspires with a great degree of confidence.

Simply phenomenal!!!

Beautiful car...with AWD I'd be all over it. I believe Jaguar's low sales are due to taking too long to launch AWD in the Northeast. The NE is historically Jag's biggest market in the US. I know I passed on the XJ in 2010 b/c I needed (wanted) AWD. The XK, XJ and XF should have launched with AWD.
Since there is so much talk about reliability, I decided to compare past JDP long term studies. It is interesting to note that with 112 problems per 100 vehicles in 2011, Jaguar would have finished ahead of Lexus in 2000. In fact almost every manufacturer had better quality in 2011 than Lexus did in 2000.
BTW I absolutely hate JDP b/c a cupholder defect has the same weight as an engine failure.

Lexus Fanatic
They just made a beautiful car even more desireable. I love it !!! I just wish they could push up the reliability. I know two other docs who have the XJ and one took it back after a year and the other is driving it but has sworn off the brand forever. I would love to drive one to see for myself.

Maybe in the past (during Leyland ownership just before Ford bought it)
But does that statement still apply to JLR cars from the TATA GROUP era???
I mean:
Is a Jaguar XJ *really* less reliable than say a BMW 7 series or an Audi A8 or even an MB S-class?
I ask that because in the case of modern Jags, they've definitely improved.
In fact, I get the feeling that the statement regarding modern-day Jaguar vehicles being less reliable than any German automobile is a MYTH.
Hopefully some actual XJ owners out there can shed some light on this so that this myth can be busted once and for all.....
