While the new Highlander is nice car all-round. It just doesn't standout much on the road.

Frankly, I'd bump up to the Highlander Limited, or a Highlander Hybrid, if you're willing to spend the money to get a base MDX. As far as these 2 classes of SUVs go, I'd rather have a loaded mainstream model, than a base luxury model.

Can't go wrong with either one, the Highlander does offer more features and IMO looks better. The MDX costs almost 20% more and I don't see the value in why.

They have both these vehicles in Australia, where you live?

Both vehicles are nice. But on interior alone I would choose the MDX. Toyota needs to post some better pics of the Toyota Highlander online. The current ones on the website are terrible.

I was thinking the same thing.

I sat in the new 14 Highlander, XLE version hybrid. I though I was going to fall asleep, the interior is that boring. It is a nice redesign over the last gen model, but man it is boring inside.

I really don't like those captain's chairs. I thought the prior gen Highlander was genius with the removable mini-middle section that could stow under the center console, so you could create captain's chairs and better access to the 3rd row.

The GLS Santa Fe makes no sense to me, though. The lower version Santa Fes are already 7 passenger, not 8 like the Highlander. So the GLS captain's chairs make the car a 6 passenger vehicle. I just can't justify spending more money to get a larger 3-row vehicle, and only add 1 passenger over a 2-row SUV.

Make it an option, not a requirement of the top level trim....

I couldn't disagree more but I did drive them all. The interior is very well done and thought out with very good materials. The thoughtful electronics shelf that runs across the dash is genius. What is more exciting inside? They all lack real flair outside of an RX or RR.

The 2014 Toyota Highlander can go off-road. In fact it will do just fine on a dirt road. But what happens when that road turns snowy, muddy, messy and slippery.

these TFL idiots produce the worst reviews - they center the review on themselve and their lame jokes, while ignoring the car

AlexOnAutos, AutoBytle, and Consumer Reports are much better

So true. The TFL reviews border on cringe-worthy.

Couldn't agree more. TFL is a bad joke with a video camera. Ever seen their 0-60 videos? Lol.
