Kia debuts 2014 Forte Koup
Kia unveiled its boldest car to date today at the 2013 New York Auto Show: the 2014 Forte Koup.
Just like its five-door sibling, the car can come equipped with a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine that makes 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Of course, there’s also the less exciting 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 173 horsepower with 154 lb-ft of torque.
Even more than the practically-minded siblings, this is Kia’s most performance-capable car ever.
“Its rakish design, premium amenities and powerful turbocharged engine set it apart from the competition,” Kia marketing executive Michael Sprague said. “With the debut of the Forte sedan and 5-door earlier this year, and now the Koup in New York, the Forte lineup has been completely revamped from top to bottom.”
Just like the five-door version that debuted during the Chicago Auto Show in February, there are two trim levels available: EX and SX. The first comes with the less-exciting 2.0-liter engine while the SX is packaged with the 1.6-liter turbo engine.
Kia calls the SX a tarmac carver, and while that has yet to be seen it can be had with a six-speed manual or optional automatic with paddle shifters. The EX trim, on the other hand, only comes equipped with a six-speed auto.
Other features include standard 16-inch allow wheels with the option to upgrade to 18-inch version along with a standard backup camera, Bluetooth connectivity, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel with audio controls, and LED light strips above the headlights.
SX models get larger 18-inch wheels with a dual exhaust system and faux-carbon fiber exterior details. The same carbon look carries into the interior details, while a long list of available upgrades include everything from a heated and cooled driver’s seat, a push-button start and a driver-selectable steering system with comfort, sport and normal modes.

Bleh. Hard to decifer grille shape, Botox headlights are obese and overdone, and there's not enough rear bumper surface with all that cheap, black plastic trim jutting up. Current body is sleeker, lighter, classier, and more lithe. Thankfully, the interior is a huge improvement.
