Default The desert can be a very very cruel place - 3 people found dead in an LX 570

The Empty Quarter.

As the name suggests it is one of the most isolated and dry places on Earth, with temperatures easily exceeding 135 f in summer and sand dunes as high as sky scrapers as well as alot of quick sand that can easily swallow trucks right up to the roof.

There have been expeditions or local hunting trips but they usually consist of no less than 10 of the most reliable cars ( Usually Land Cruisers ).

Sometimes though, even with one of the most reliable car on the planet, things can end tragically.

3 People were discovered dead in their LX 570 after it got swallowed by the sand. It seems they weren't properly equipped to cross this harsh desert and they all lost their lives inside the Lexus.

I actually have seen pictures of the decaying bodies inside ( The car still had the factory plastic on the seats ) It was a horrible thing to see....
I will just post pictures of the vehicle from outside.

very sad

That's sad. I have a morbid curiosity when I see un-edited accident pictures, not going to lie. I can only imagine how bad the smell was. May they RIP.

Yep.....even the best AWD/4WD systems, like on the LX, Land-Rover, and Mercedes G-Wagen, clearly have their limits. It's a shame, though, that it had to cost three lives....assuming that's what actually happened and that they weren't preyed on by desert bandits.

very sad, but you'd think that if they were from that part of the world they would have known better. No cell ? no water? no back up or other cars? Not a good idea. I live in AZ I know better and we top out at about 122 degrees. I can only imagine what 135 degrees would feel like.

Curious! Did the sand overtake them all of a sudden to prevent them from rolling up the windows? Seems to me that if the windows were down then maybe they couldve climbed out of the vehicle. Just and observation. Nevertheless, very sad on the lost of any life in these type of circumstances.

They probably rolled the down to cool down, and in that temperature you better stay inside the car. direct sun at those temps will fry your brain in an hour

We all remember the Tsunami that one morning killed approximately 250,000. Did you know that the world population was up the pre-tsunami count in less than 24 hours?
that doesn't lessen the pain of the loss of 250,000 to those who loved them.

So if three dumb guys choose to go for a ride to see nothing but sand in 135F temperature, by what logic should I be sad today? If I should, then how should I feel about a quarter million dead for the feeling to be in some proportion to the loss?
i'm sure it's tough for you, being perfect and all, and never making mistakes, never doing anything dumb, and that you have never had anything bad happen as a result of your decisions.

about the quarter million dead, that is of course an even larger tragedy. but every life is precious.

They were missing for 3 months, pretty much looks like your typical mummy at the metropolitan museum: black and shrunken in.

Poor guys, the local news said that they were visiting relatives who lives near the desert, and on their return trip decided to take the direct trip through the desert (600km!!!!) and got swallowed up in a sandstorm.
