2014 Ford Fusion to get 1.5L EcoBoost three-cylinder?

Personally I think where manufacturers are going wrong on these smaller turbo engines is when they drop the compression ratio down into the 9:1 range for compatibility with regular fuel. Hyundai does it and comes up short, Ford does it and comes up short. The Germans stick with higher 10:1 range CRs and tell you to stick with premium fuel and they're all doing great as far as power and fuel economy goes. The Ford Escape with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine I had for a rental definitely seemed to be stumbling a bit at times and was exhibiting what I thought for sure was timing pull, which is a lot of wasted gas right there. So I'm thinking this has to be it.

It was announced today that it's a 1.5 liter turbo 4 cylinder, not 3. We should fix the thread title. Apparently China has big taxes/restrictions on engines over 1.5 liters

Totally agree. It is completely out of hand. Turbo or not, IMO, using a shaky, vibration-prone 1.5L 3-banger in a car of the Fusion's class and dignity is nonsense.

problem is that you have to sell these cars are similar prices to old non turbo prices... BMW can have premium price for their turbos, Ford cant... hence lower tech... just because engine has turbo doesnt mean tech is equal to other turbo's... just like Toyota's and Honda's NA engines got better mpg than other NA engines, so do BMW and Audi turbos get better mpg than other turbo engines :-)

Anyways:
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it that three cylinder engines have a very weird firing order?
