to be honest if we are talking about pure quietness and smoothness, i think ls430 is a better candidate

Needless to say, I was surprised when I read that some people actually thought they were/are more comfortable than many of the LS460's...Just kind of thought you would get better with the newer iterations of a car.

Henry (rominl) is correct. The LS430, in general, because of higher-profile tires, is somewhat smoother-riding than the standard-wheelbase 460, especially the 460 Sport-package (I have not sampled the long-wheelbase LS). But the 460, like the 430, is as quiet as they come....until you crank up that superb Mark Levinson stereo.

Also, thanks for the Azera/Lacrosse suggestions - I've heard good things about those as well
My experience test-driving the Azera is that, though the interior is nice, it doesn't quite ride as smoothly or quitely as its (older) Toyota Avalon competitor. I've already described the new Lacrosse in my earlier post.

Hmm, interesting. I just bought, we leased, a 2013 Azera Limited and it rides better and is quieter than my Genesis sedan that I turned in. I haven't ever driven the older Avalon though.

No surprise there. Both are tuned differently and going for two different markets. Similar to the ES/GS proposition - FWD/Comfort vs RWD/SportLux

Really Lexus kind of stole the whole "numb" thing from the Americans. I'd say all of these cars are as quiet and ride as nice, if not better than the LS. Provided the shocks aren't worn out.

94-04 Cadillac Deville(the Concourse and DTS models ride a little bit harsher, but the extra bit of body control/handling makes it a worthwhile trade IMO)
94-96 Fleetwood Brougham
2003-2011 Lincoln Town Car(the older model ones are just too floaty for my tastes). Riding in the back of a long wheelbase black Town Car, I can definintely say its way more isolated than an LS Lexus. It doesn't float either, you just don't feel/hear ANYTHING.
