To C&D's defense, people say this no matter how many times the BMW loses. The 6-series almost never wins comparison tests, the F10 5-series have lost more than a few, and even back in the days of the E46 M3 it got toppled by the Audi S4.

They were unfairly harsh on the ATS. I've driven the 2.0 and it's a beatiful, wonderfully balanced car, with a finely crafted interior that makes BMWs pop up screen dash and red guages look like fisher price gear. It handily bests the 2nd GEN IS in every way, but I have not had the privilege of driving the 3IS yet.
As for CUE, people who have issues with CUE still probably have a a VCR at home flashing 12:00 all the time.

I like that.

Sadly this won't shut up fanboys, but it's a start. Glad to know that the 3IS follows in the footsteps of it's big brother in both performance/handling + the technology is even better from my experience in a 3IS static review. Only thing that could have been better were better plastics and not so many limiting options on the F-Sport. I want my cake and I want to eat it too

Could it be that the recent comparos with the 3/5 series result in BMW losses because they are equipping the 335s/535s instead of 320s/528s?
I think the bigger engines would lead to more mass, thus resulting in worse handling. I wonder if the difference would be significant/noticeable in comparing the smaller engines with competitors.
Either way, good job Lexus.

Well the 5-Series gained nearly 400lbs of mass via luxury tech and safety so I can understand that one, but the 3-Series is roughly the same weight as the outgoing model - it and the ATS are two of the lightest in class. Oddly enough the IS350 gained 66lbs and is now a heffer near 3700lbs but still winning. Imagine if they could have shed 200lbs to help increase perfoance and efficiency. The IS and GS are almost near the same weight now
