You know what's the most worrying thing for BMW?
The 335i has significantly better straightline speed 0-60 and 1/4 mile, is 100lbs lighter than the IS350, YET has a significantly slower slalom speed compared to the IS.
We all know slalom speed measures chassis tuning and responsiveness. DESPITE all its advantages in terms of torque and straight line acceleration, the BMW 335i M-Sport still manages to be a poorer handling car both objectively in terms of measured numbers and subjectively according to the C&D editors' personal feedback.
Does that sound familiar to you?
Right now, it looks like BMW is in danger of becoming a mid-90's Mercedes AMG : fast only in a straight line, using its power as a crude attempt to mask its shortcomings as a precision driving instrument.

The 2.5 is still a fail and a sad excuse for an engine 2013. Even Caddy's 2.5L 4 cylinder will stomp all over the 250. Toyota should just do what Benz did with the c300, and use a detuned 2gr-fse in the IS250, until they can spit out a decent turbo 4.

well, technically it is detuned version of same engine... people buying IS250 most likely dont care at all about speed or they wouldnt get it... while people who care, get the 350.

And that still doesn't address my post. I was inquiring about what the difference would be if they had stationed a handling comparo between a lighter 320/328 vs the 350. This way it would be clear whether or not it is the weight that is messing with BMW, or if it is maybe that they have lost their "magic touch".
In essence i am talking about the difference between the 320 and 335. Nothing about the IS.
Regarding the midsizers, the GS curbs at 3795, 528 at 3814, and 535 at 4068. There is not a gigantic, but appreciable differnece between the diffent 5s. So in that respect, i wonder if the lighter 5 would outhandle a 2013 GS.

First of all, I'm surprised the IS is heavier than the competition when the GS is the lightest by far. On the other hand, I'm glad BMW lost the handling/steering comparison, and they will be laughing all the way to the bank as their sales keep increasing, proving what those of us with common sense have been saying for years - nobody gives a damn about handling/steering feel other than Jihadists on the internet.
I think new BMWs and new Lexus models are simply phenomenal and light years ahead of outgoing models. I've had plenty of experience with numerous Lexus and BMW models of the past, and they all had plenty of shortcomings. I drove the new GS350 and 550 M sport, and they are both simply orgasmic, despite the fact that 550's steering isn't sporty at all, its borderline loose with M mode disabled. They are well refined, with amazing interior and exterior, loaded with modern electronics, and just simply stomp the outgoing models.

As I've previously posted, imo, the F30 is a pos.
What this "win" makes me wonder is wtf is Lexus doing not committing to a new IS F???
If they're making so much progress, performance wise, why not come out guns 'a blazin' and state that they're going to bring a true performance monster to the 'Ring...so to speak...lol???
After my previous positive experience, I'd already have my name on the wait list if they can deliver this kind of advancement on top of the progress they made with the LCI's.
If it is years out, one of the competitors will surely wind up in my garage instead as the 350 F-sport holds very little appeal after owning an IS F.

My point isnt to play IS vs 328/320. It is to play 320/328 vs 335.
The 335 weighs the most out of that trio. It is also being tested against other cars to see who wins in handling. But because it weighs more, im wondering if comparing the lighter 20/28, INSTEAD OF THE 335, would result in BMW winning.
Or, is BMW just losing ground because they have lost the magic touch.

IS: 0-60 in 5.6 seconds? Isn't that worth some discussion? (!)

I couldn't ever take them seriously. Ever.
I'll give them about a year and 1/2 before I give up.
Very close to leasing a 550i to accompany my 2IS in the garage

You'd probably know more about this being at a Lexus dealer, but i have a gut feeling that they are doing their wierd plan with the IS F that will mirror the plan for the 5LS.
Drop the IS F for 1-1.5 years (facelift the 4LS), then come out with a super good IS F (5LS).
That is, if the gameplan is as i have heard.

There will be an IS-F but it won't be a 4 door sedan.
It will come out as a 2 door RC-F coupe. It will also probably be slightly more expensive than an equivalent IS-F but have chassis/suspension improvements to justify the price premium over an equivalent IS-F.
Sort of like BMW in the past when the M3 was exclusively a 2 door coupe while the base 3 series was a 4 door sedan.
