I've had both an E90 335d and an 8th gen (2008-2012) Honda Accord V6 floor it past me or in front of me back to back, and the 335d was actually the cleaner of the two. Lots of pig rich and smelly exhaust belching from the Accord (stock exhaust) but the 335d was clean as a whistle. The only thing that's a little smelly on our diesel is when the AdBlue (urea injection) does one of its catalyst regen cycles. Otherwise aside from engine noise, you can't tell it's a diesel.
A 2011 Accord V6 does pretty well against a 2011 335d.
