On this episode of Head 2 Head, the newest luxury heavyweight takes on the reigning champ. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has ruled the luxury roost since it created the segment decades ago. However, Elon Musk's revolutionary Tesla Model S has single handedly disrupted the established luxury paradigm and has recently outsold the mighty S-Class. What's most amazing is that the Model S doesn't use a drop of gas. The S-Class does, but it rewrites the luxury car playbook in other ways. So which $125K big lux whip is best? Watch and find out!

Funny how I just ran into this thread now....during lunch I was at the Mercedes dealer getting service done on my truck and was chatting with the GM about his new facelifted e63 AMG. He just got rid of the CLS63 for the E63 which I might add is quite the "looker" with the white exterior, black pano roof and new headlights.
Let me first say what I both love and hate about Mercedes. They change their design so often it sucks to be the owner of the previous generation. I would hate to be a 2011/2012 E63 owner and see the new car![Frown](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
With that said, we had some time to kill so we took a new 2014 s550 out for a spin. The car is totally not in my demographics (give me at least another 15 years...haha) but I have to admit Mercedes is really at the top of their game. The fit and finish is amazing. The LED lit dash strip is so cool. Everything about the car is amazing really for what they are trying to do.
Sure the rear end looks Maybach like and the front is a bit timid, but overall for Mercedes it hit the bulls eye for their target audience (CEO, old rich guys, executives, cougar moms) I love the car's technology but with the same $115k price tag, give me the E63 AMG any day.
The car I drove did not have the sport package or anything fancy and it stickered at $115k. I felt like I was in a space ship as it isolates pretty much all road noise as you float down the road. Speed wise it's really fast but that sound system is so stupid good it rivals my Martin Logan setup at home! If you want to ride in total isolation and not even drive the car, this is the car for you!
Personally if I wanted to be surrounded in such luxury, I'd prefer a Range Rover or something a bit more sporty and taller. I guess I'm just not old enough to have any real need or connection to this car. Maybe that's a good thing for my wallet

Mercedes-AMG - The new S 63 AMG Coupé is the latest dream car to augment the Mercedes-AMG model range. As the most powerful member of the BlueDIRECT engine family, the AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine is a paragon of poise and assurance. Boasting an output of 430 kW (585 hp) and 900 Nm of torque, the S 63 AMG Coupé delivers exceptional performance with remarkably low fuel consumption.

Darkness has a companion tonight.
Small creatures ***** ears and tremble with fright.
A sleek velvet phantom is making its way
through shadows, eyes gleaming. It´s searching for prey.

I know John Davis, and occasionally talk with him at auto shows (we have met a number of times), though he is not what one would consider a close friend. John himself is quite sharp, and knows his stuff. But the problem with the Motorweek show is that the show's producers try and pack so many things into that scant half-hour that there isn't really enough time in some of the regularly scheduled auto reviews to really give an accurate description of the car stem to stern.
